Why all the PvE hate?
Re: Why all the PvE hate?
The main problem with PvE is that we will have to rebalance all the encounters, without information on what was done to calculate damage, health and stats for mobs.

exactly what i said azarael. its (right now) to much effort imho, when you can have a perfect pve experience in lots of other games, but no other game offers rvr/pvp experience such as warhammer did.

Re: Why all the PvE hate?
Open us a Dungeon (Serwers or Hunters), not even need to set loot, or u can place the Decayed/Lady, and u can get feedback, but, honestly, do u have the time for it? I mean, with the PvP t2-t3 and t4 zone-slide in progress, it would be a lot of work. I asked Sigmarpriest once that i saw him in-game and he answered me that, and i think he is completely right.Azarael wrote:The main problem with PvE is that we will have to rebalance all the encounters, without information on what was done to calculate damage, health and stats for mobs.

Re: Why all the PvE hate?
I agree that the PvP needs to have an advantage. No doubt about that!
Still, I see that a LOT of people do not understand what I am on about. I agree that WAR PvE was abysmal and served only as a means to an end. Still, PQs were fun and quests actually had quite good writing. At least the epic ones. Far better than I usually encounter in Fantasy MMOs-that for sure.
There are two parts to everything: a real, tangible part and an unreal, ephmeral part. We can describe it via complex numbers: 7+j5(or 7+5i for modern hipsters) for example. We can apply this to particularly anything. So I will do with PvE:
I
The real, tangible part are the mechanics, the bugs, the general flow. This part is ABYSMAL and one of the worst in industry for certain. I think that nobody will object to this.
II
The unreal, ephemeral part is the IP, the stories, the RP potential. This part is WONDERFUL and one of the better examples in industry. Additionally, the only games with higher potential for a good quality storytelling and/or RP are LoTR:O and AoC, due to their huge IPs. DO NOT DISCARD WARHAMMER IP!
I am concerned about PvE only because part II. Part I is largely unfixable and would require whole another Warhammer Fantasy (MMO)RPG. Preferably without the bracketed part. Do you understand now?
edit: Further, how come NO other game offers the RvR experience of WAR? Ever heard of EvE, of DaoC, of Camelot:Unchained, of GW2? Stop spreading half-truths! If there is nothing of anything from WAR, it's its IP! And especially evident within (MMO)RPG genre...

Re: Why all the PvE hate?
well when camelot unchained will leave preprepreprepalpha tech demo phase in a year or two, you might be right.
eve is calculator in space, how can you even mention it with war in one sentence?
GW2? You serious? ^^

Re: Why all the PvE hate?
I have to disagree in this. 24 possible classes, 12 mirrors but not exact ones normally, giving you the choice to go for minor changes in the 12 main classes, with 3 possible paths of spec. No other game gives u that. Its not about the RvR itself but the HUGE possible customizations. Also, once those classes hit RR70 they can again split in 2 new paths, offensive and defensive. The big sum of possibles ways to confront PvP is 24*3*2=148, and that just taking into account full paths, not half-paths. The many slots can be filled, usually, with non-class-fixed things (jewelry, pocket, event) and class fixed things (armour, weapons) that had slots to work in the customizacion of the stats u prefered. Is that flavour of flexibility of configuration that is special about WAR PvP. So far cant find anything like this game was.Gorwe wrote:(...)

Re: Why all the PvE hate?
No, I'm dead serious. You just need to get rid of that bad attitude of yours and stop seeing potential and start seeing reality. How is GW2 WvW any different from WAR RvR? Hm?Tiggo wrote:well when camelot unchained will leave preprepreprepalpha tech demo phase in a year or two, you might be right.

And I love it how everyone finds some miniscule reason to say something is bad. I love it even more how everyone dances around DaoC. Everytime I mention it, everyone acts as if I haven't mentioned it.
edit: Idgaf about potentials.

Re: Why all the PvE hate?
you dont get it: devs have no ressources for pve. and they are right in their decision to put in minimal ressources into warhammer pve and focus on the rvr and pvp side of the game. cause that is how it DIFFERS from the other 200 pve mmos out there.
btw. you missed the only real alternative, that is Rift: Planes of Telara. If they not had totally screwed rvr and if they didnt have such tremendous perfomance problems on mass battles ...
