Re: Full wipe

Is this really a good time to be talking about a full wipe, though? With all the problems in the last few days, people are tense as it is, especially since this is not the first and most likely not the last time DDoS attacks and subsequent server/database problems occur.
I've re-read the first post a few times, and what I couldn't find was the reason this was brought up here and now (in the suggestions section no less), what the OP wants with this whole thread. Is it really wise to aggravate players who obviously don't want to lose their work invested into their characters unless absolutely necessary, while the server staff is working very hard hard to resolve said problems with as little damage/data loss as possible, and keeping the playerbase updated on their progress?
To be honest, this does kind of feel like deliberate trolling/flaming. At least it certainly doesn't help; we can see a staff member explain yet again that wipes will be absolutely last resort to calm players, people arguing about wipes, and all in the context of what's happening right now.
Was this thread really necessary? If the server staff feels the need for a wipe, I'm sure they will come out and say it. Until that, why make the bad situation even worse?

Well, I'm not going to repeat the same arguments again and again.

If this is not a good moment to talk about a full wipe, we will wait for the good moment. But I think there are several people participating in the thread that never find a good moment to discuss about things that they don't agree with, but they are the first ones flaming when the thread defends their own point of view.

I always defend the right of others of participating in the forums and I always try to be respectful with the other's opinions.

Finally, it's very sad to find people who defend that discussing opinions could make situations worse, and who want to throw a permasilence bluff over everyone who thinks differently.

However, and as it was said, thanks for reading and participating. It will allways increase the opportunity of getting a better game experience.

if it happens, so be it. trust in chaos ;)

that said, working in game development myself i can see plenty of potential issues that could cause for a wipe. it happens. and as ppl have mentioned further up thread, its alpha stage and thus still very much in development. development can (does) mean change.

Guys seriously what u expect if we got full wipe ? Server gonna be ok if wipe happens ? You're absulately wrong.

I ran private ultima online server 5 year ago and we have to wipe the server if two things happen.

1-Item/gold dupe.
2-Server under heavy lag due to massive items.

So we got this issues right now ? No.

I would appreciate less strawmanning and less putting words in my mouth. I made it very clear, several times, that the problem with the topic of a full wipe is in its context, as in the troubles the server is experiencing at the moment. Yet you talk about permasilence as if this was an attempt to never discuss the topic at all, which is a blatant lie.

As for "discussing opinions", once again, the context matters quite a lot. You don't talk to relatives waiting near the surgery room about a funeral while their family member is being operated on. If you do, you really shouldn't be surprised if they treat you as, well, a jerk. The topic in that context conveys an objectionable message.
Similarly, you're already talking about burying the server database while the staff is working their ass off to recover it and the players are hoping for that recovery, as evident from the many threads related to that topic. The tone shows a level of eagerness that players reasonably might be uncomfortable with.

The message of the first post about the playerbase's alleged wipe readiness posted in the Suggestions section (instead of, for example, General Discussion), together with your constant condescending attitude towards anyone who disagrees with you in this thread (as it happens in the very first post) does make you sound even more like a troll.

I'd like a full wipe, save for character names, just so we could all experience RoR in its prime. It'd be another adventure with so many people in a game we all adore.

Of course, only when we finally get out of alpha/beta.
