The only interesting anti-xrealm measure I remember was when someone suggested to reward sticking to a realm rather than trying to prevent people from switching (which won't work). There are many ways to do this, for example an AAO-like mechanism that gives better kill/support/capture rewards the more time you spend playing the same character or the same side of the same tier at least.
This is great idea. Rewarding for playing longer on one side is much more encouraging than penalizing for swapping sides.
This is the only way x-realming can be fought, imho.

I made two suggestions regarding this, here is the first one:

http://www.returnofreckoning.com/forum/ ... 226#p68504

I cant find the second one, but it went something like this: For the first 20 minutes you spend on a character, you have a -25% penalty to renown/xp/inf. After 20 minutes it goes to 0, after another 20 minutes it goes to + 15%, and so and so, until you get like a +100% bonus after idk, 2-3 hours in the same realm.

The penalty on the first 20 minutes is so people don't switch to the other side just for zone flips.
What if you disconnect/get thrown of the server? Are we going to keep track of every player depending or not they log another realm, or by individual players? In most cases of disconnect, you'll have to re-open the launcher, even when you connect to the same realm you were on before, would you get penalised? What about people who use another account for playing on the other realm? Are we going to track their realm switching based on IP? Would we make this penalty/eventual buff show obviously or is it a hidden bonus? Would it actually incentivise people to fight a warband twice their side; mostly not able to get kills but only a small extra reward for killing them? Would it stack with AAO?

I have so many questions. :P

This could effectively replace the the Fields of Glory buff (The Field of Glory buff grants a experience/RR/INF bonus in RvR Lakes when killing, more on BOs) that was on live. I would like to see this buff transfer over to faction related toons, to avoid greater frusterations from DCing or needing to switch toons.

Right now crossrealming is inevitable, once player numbers rise, T4 opens and guilds form up properly i think that will change, but right now when there is nothing to do in T3 but zerg, or nothing at all as there was this morning, and if you dont want to do SCs rolling a new class is about the only thing to do, when you have played all the ones on one side you want to its pretty much the case that you are going to try and play the *other side* if you enjoy a few classes over there.

I don't agree with the gameplayers who log onto whichever side is winning, its shitty and spoils the gameplay for all, but it happens, sadly.

Playing a class that you often die to can help you understand the mechanic better, and how to kill em! lol but on each side there is bound to be classes that people fancy playing and why shouldn't they, there are some fun classes on both sides and till T4 comes around it will keep happening. And there's no point expecting decency from some of the players NOT to ditch to the winning side but im beginning to see there's a lack of that in game lately.

Are we going to keep track of every player depending or not they log another realm, or by individual players? Everyone gets the debuff the first 10/20 minutes, regardless of what account they use/which realm they log into. This is to avoid people switching sides for free zone flips. The bonus after 20/30 minutes will compensate them in the end.

In most cases of disconnect, you'll have to re-open the launcher, even when you connect to the same realm you were on before, would you get penalised? Yes. But as i said it would only be a 20 minute penalty; it could be made into 10. The point is to avoid people from logging to the other side to get free zone flips.

What about people who use another account for playing on the other realm? Are we going to track their realm switching based on IP? No. Everyone gets the penalty the first 10/20, and then a bonus the longer they play that character.

Would we make this penalty/eventual buff show obviously or is it a hidden bonus? Shown if possible.

Would it actually incentivise people to fight a warband twice their side; mostly not able to get kills but only a small extra reward for killing them? Maybe. I think it will incentivise them way more than any penalty you could think of for x-realmers anyway.

Would it stack with AAO? Yes. So the bonus must be really small the first 20-40 minutes, but after that it should be really nice (specially combined with AAO).

I have so many questions. :P
I understand that the biggest issue with this suggestion would be:

- random disconnects/crashes
- People logging to an alt from that same realm would still get penalized

Anyway, i strongly belief that it is impossible to fight x-realming by punishing people. Giving incentives to stay on one side is the only way, imho.

At first I agreed with the debuff but after reading your analysis I can see the big holes in that idea. Can you imagine the tears if this was implemented!!! As many times as I've lagged out this week or been DC'd due to server issues the forums would be inundated with people crying about lost renown. What if you get DC'd right before a zone lock and are able to make it back in just in time and miss out on 20% of the renown by no fault of your own? Good call dev!

So forget the debuff. But the incremental buff to inf/renown might still help to incentivise people to stay on one realm.

Idk, this is a complicated issue and the solution will definitely won't be simple.

And as it seems Penril has all the answers :D

I like the idea of awarding people the longer they stay active in RvR. I think it might solve the problem of disbanding groups and would encourage to switch the zone and keep on fighting instead of giving up/relogging/going scenarios.

It would also solve the problem of tracking people/account activity as after changing the side you would simply lose the buff. Only thing is: what to do when someone crashes?

Let's start the brainstorm, maybe we will come up with something? :)

How about if it would tag specific character and would get removed after logging to different toon? I think it would be doable as the rested bonus is tracked separately for each character, isn't it?

Very complicated! But I have to say that your suggestions are the best I've read in a long time! I think the buff is a great idea and I don't see any complications with it. Yes there will still be tears when people miss their buff due to DC's but atleast they are getting the renown they have earned no penalties. I think this is a great idea Penril.
