SW General Discussion

Hey y'all!

I miss the class general boards from the original WAR forums so I figured we could at least start general career discussion threads and keep playstyle oriented questions in those threads.

If this thread is in the wrong place, moving it won't hurt my feelings.

Anyways: Let's talk about those Archer-knights with the Sexiest Boots!

Just as a quick introduction, I played a lot of Warhammer Online when it was live; I was lucky enough to be in the Beta and I played on and off (mostly on) through all of live while I was in High School. My main was a SW that ended up only getting to 40/60 because I'm an alt-aholic and while I got kiting and plinking down I never really understood how to best use Assault stance, i usually just avoided it altogether and as such never really progressed in the class. Any tips at all would be appreciated, anecdotes of successful battles would be helpful and, like in every general thread, bickering is encouraged

Anyone have any tips on how to better incorporate Assault stance into my playstyle? I ended up speccing for Shadow Sting and No Quarter with focus in Skirmish on live and that's what I'm doing with my currrent T3 SW.

Hi Foxbeep, this is how I played in Live, R40/RR87

http://waronlinebuilder.org/#career=sw; ... 8:;0:0:0:0:

Assault playstyle is heavily based on properly readying the flow and progress of the combat, and selecting your target. Basically, you hit your properly selected targets (choppas, sorcs, witch elves) with spiral fletched arrow with all the ranged dots up (broadhead arrow and shadow sting). When you see the moment to kill the target has come (for instance, he is away from his guard, he is focused by others, also you have enough action points and VoN and/or Morale 2 up):
- Apply ranged dots + eyeshot (eyeshot might be skip)
- Approach the target and once in range draw blood + grim slash (to steel wp and reduce initiative)
- VoN + Morale 2
- Exploit Weakeness
- Brutal Assault
- Grim slash spam and flee with whirl pin once you have killed the target, or you can't kill it due to AP or whatever

Also, bear in mind that assault SW has a ton of CC, so you have to use it to help your group: ranged silence, ranged kd, melee kd, disarm, aoe snare and single snare

Hope this helps

Flee + Lileath's Forgiveness gives you both a snare removal and a ghetto charge.

Keep in your mind that in Assault stance you are not limited to your melee skills. You are not trading your Balistics for Strenght. So in Assault stance with its Weapon Skill boost even your ranged skills will probably do the most dmg. Was like this at live.

If u want to to maximize your dmg you should always move towards your target switching stances.
Scout -> Skirmish -> Assault as u closing in

Especialy the melee dot is really powerful

Wow, I had never thought of that! The weaponskill tip is good too.

Thanks for the help guys I'll try to work assault stance into my fighting more. Getting away from just slotting bal talismans is a good idea as well I'm sure, trying to get a couple of armor and toughness frags.

as i allrdy sad if they want to nerf scout build (FA build) they need to give proper snare remove/immune tool for assault spec...that combo is to meh u can do Flee + AP Pot with any class.
God Forgives... I don't!
Gru - Bright Wizard
Plissken - Slayer
Immovable - Ironbreaker
Magtheridon - Shadow Warrior

Obviously a proper snare removal ability is better than having to waste M1 on it. And AP pots don't break snares/remove every debuff.

For me, assault SW has always been one of the funiest classes to play. However, I am not sure how effective at t3 is :) Feel free to share here your experiences!

I've had a lot of success engaging in melee with the SW specced correctly, I'm still mostly shooting but when I need to close in and lay down the smack a couple of 500 grim slashes and the rare 1k brutal assault crit doesn't hurt at all!
