I've seen people mention it a lot on here and in game but I never really understood what it means

Usually refers to an organize group/wb falling back while killing randoms and pugs who chase them. Easy kills.

Picture yourself running with a kite.

Picture a Shaman running away from a Slayer.

Slayer = kite.

It means using your strafe keys (Q and E) to face your target within a 180 degree arch, thus being able to shoot them with ranged attacks while running away from them at equal speeds to theirs in order to avoid physical contact. If done correctly they should not be able to hit you with melee over long distances(if at all) and you avoid attacks that target your backside ( WE/WH snare for example).

It more or less means a tactical retreat. If you play a ranged class it could also mean keeping someone at range so they can't attack you but you can attack them.

Good definition, but you forgot that in RoR, you must jump every seconds to exaggerate the Melee Distance Bug.

this is the exact explanation why wh/we is the only class that has absolutely no chance in an open field against any other class, even when wh/we is best geared and most skilled player on the world. (asuming the defender does it right ofc)

pls proof, when im wrong

You could use stealth maybe? On WE you can follow with HS and if you think you won't be able to kill them before they get up, use FF or EoC (depending if you jumped a caster or not). Or maybe not use HS immediately but wait to see if he manages to snare/punt you; in this case you use OyK. You can use your self punt to stagger an enemy and jump towards a fleeing target as well.

And someone correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't FP + Throwing dagger a good way to snare kiters?
