How to NOT attack when clicking on target?

I am playing a shadow warrior and when I click on a target to select it my character fires an auto attack shot. I would like that not to happen. I would like to select target, fire an ability skill, then have auto attack turn on until target dead. Any help? I have played many games of this type but can't recall having this issue. Thank you.

It's a bug. And it doesn't seem to always happen. I thought maybe it was due to being in combat, but I briefly tried to reproduce it in Altdorf without any luck.

Basically a few months ago this bug appeared and was meant to have been fixed, but it still seems to be recurring occasionally.

yea, it went away briefly. happens more often than not in my experience so far. I'm in the newbie area, maybe it gets better in others. Thanks for the reply.
