Endless renown

Following the BO post of woneshot I keep thinking about the reborn possibility as "Endless renown" system as let's be honest, no one is ever getting to 255, topping max at 90-100 is more than enough.

Why don't we add this new mechanic to "reborn" our character? lets say you reach rr 100 (which is an awesome mark) and you are given the reward by your God to reborn as one of their champions, this mechanic will allow you to reborn as a lvl 1/ rr 1 and will grant you some new ability (initially I posted about getting one of the SOV/OFF SOV/ Warlord special skill for example since >T2) this will spice up characters options and diversification, we could also leave it as it is and just add tactics above 90 but sending ourselves into t1-t2-t3-t4 will keep experienced players merged with lower ones (for bad or for good) but will keep the lakes more alive and lower scenarios full.

This will push people to keep playing with his char, we could also make harder to skill the "second" generation of renown ranks, anyway the skill/ability granted should feel rewarding but not game breaking as some would prefer to just skip it and remain at 100 instead of keep farming.

It was a good mechanic back then to keep us hooked forever, some of those muds didn't even allow you to have multiple accounts / chars.

Yeah, I have several guildies that are basically fully geared on all chars or all they care about, and with no new gear sets or deep content on the near horizon being able to unlock some permanent increases to character from Prestiging would definitely be interesting. Since they have lost interest in the game because of nothing valuable to grind towards.

Giving us a list of choices each time, an easy way to increase the possible game time with years of grinding. Though maybe make the rebirth level be rr80, just because getting to 100 is insanity levels of grinding unless renown gain gets buffed quite a bit. Just hitting 80 on all chars takes a long time.

Just introduce rot-death gear :)

Reborn would be cool, but it should necessarily give a pvp advantage. Looks / Cosmetics / mounts / weapons would be enough of a carrot imo.

There is an upside to allowing rebirth mechanic to give actual pvp advantages, you could lower the requirements for gear gains while still maintaining a reason to play the game.

And it can be balanced by increasing gear effect, and flattening the gear curve, while allowing a small persistent gain on rebirthing a character. So that the ones that play endlessly still have something to work towards, while also being not sov geared for the entire duration they are rebuilding.

Even at a close to endlessly repeatable rebirth mechanic, if the gain is negligible, but persistent it would pay off in the long run. Then it becomes a direct choice. Do I stay in sov+80+rr with all the strength that comes from that.

Or do I reroll back to level 1 and have to regrind the whole game, for a persistent buff to my characters strength. For me personally this would allow me to play my favorite classes while gaining true progression again. Would definitely increase my time spent with the game several times over again.

Said 100 as rr80 seems too low, perhaps considering there are some fashion shields at rr85 that could be a good mark. We must consider the grind some people did above the chosen renown rank so that should be given back to them as renown points for their second run (or at least a part of it).

Thats the point, nice to hear people got it positively.

By becoming a Champion of your desired god (desired as it could be an option as well!), the point is that there's something you could keep fighting for and perhaps even guilds should balance and coordinate as they can't loose 20 rr 80 out of the sudden? As the grind will take months to take they to their full potential.

I think that's a great idea.
I think that RR 85 is the right number. You get unique cosmetics at 85 (that you should keep once reborn).
80 seems to low, you unlock full sov at 78 and get full gear with 10k ring somewhere around 82 I would say for the majority of people. Then people like to grind to 85 for those sweet cosmetics and then nothing more ...
I think you could have a X% decrease crest cost for any armor, and keep your wards from previously.
New skin mount would be cool, +2 talents wich could open nice spec avoiding the +2 from sov or combining them both to open up even more thing.

sounds interesting.
like the prestige system from call of duty
  • It could be unlocked at RR85.
  • Wiping character level and RR to 1, leaving all gear and loot intact.
  • For ease of use, perhaps people would need to talk to an npc while wearing no gear, this would prevent bugs or exploits related to wearing gear
Rewards for it could be:
  • cosmetics
  • cooldown decreasers for potions
  • A way to implement tome tactic slots for utility or fun like a personal mobile bank or auction house.
  • A permanent increase in RR/EXP gain (this could lead to a snowball effect where peple that have x lvl prestige could level up twice as fast as new players)
  • Account wide utility unlocks
It could be an endless gameplay loop and would show the investement of time better than RR100+ characters that need insane amounts of Renown for every level. It would also help people gearing and mixing up to BiS gear, as well as open the gates for the introduction of even better gear sets. Because if people can reset their level, the community would shift way more attention towards midtier. Full Sov needs 10k crests, that's easily achievable by reaching RR 85, so after reaching rr85 peiple could reset their char, and do it all over again to buy other sov/triumphant/warlord pieces to mix and match gear.

My thought process:
In the game, there are renown levels that players can progress through indefinitely. However, as players reach higher levels, it becomes increasingly difficult to achieve further advancements. With the introduction of a mechanic that resets renown levels, players who currently have very high levels might feel that they are losing years of grinding. To prevent these players from feeling disheartened by losing their progress, which would put them on par with new players, the following solutions could be considered:
  • Prestige System: Implement a prestige system where, upon resetting, players receive a prestige rank or some form of recognition that reflects their previous achievements. This could include unique titles, cosmetic items, or other in-game rewards that signify their high renown before the reset.
  • Progressive Rewards: Offer progressive rewards for higher renown levels that persist even after the reset. For example, players could retain certain bonuses, perks, or advantages that scale with their highest reached renown level.
  • Legacy Points: Introduce a system where players earn legacy points based on their renown level before the reset. These points could be used to unlock special rewards, abilities, or content, ensuring that their past efforts still contribute to their current progress.
  • Opt-In Reset: Allow the renown reset to be an optional feature, giving players the choice to reset their levels for rewards or benefits while allowing others to continue progressing without resetting.
  • Hall of Fame: Create a "Hall of Fame" or leaderboard that permanently displays the highest renown levels achieved by players, immortalizing their efforts and providing lasting recognition for their accomplishments.
By implementing one or more of these solutions, the game can ensure that long-time players feel valued and rewarded for their dedication, even as new mechanics are introduced to keep the gameplay experience fresh and engaging for everyone.

How and whether this could be implemented, I have no idea. Just writing this on a whim :)
