Engi / Magus

Lately I read a lot of Engi hate in the chats. Destro seems to think they are OP yet I don't see the big difference between Magus and Engi in T2. I think both pets shoot through walls and skill wise I see no differences yet.
Can someone explain me what sets the Engi apart from the Magus in this stage of the game that people do complain way more about the little dwarf than about the foul wizard?
thx in advance!

typical - destro chat : bloody order cheating assholes!! Engis spamming aoe through walls!!! report!!!

- order chat : bloody destro cheating assholes!! Choppa spamming aoe through walls!!!

Only difference is engi morale 2 (UF) - it transform engi aoe shotgun to pretty nasty piece for 7 secs so their aoe through walls actually hurts people. especially when there are more engineers using it at a same time ;-)

and yea - even magus pets attack through walls and every aoe hit through walls. Yes, even destro aoe :P

Engies are good in the lower tiers, but Magi surpass them in t4. Engies have to deal with armor/tough values, while magi deal with elemental/spirit resists only.

In t2 Engies have access to Unshakable Focus while Magi lack it. So, even though they can both can hit through walls, engies will be hitting for 100% more damage (for 7s) which is huge. Fighting 2+ engies in keep defense is a real pain. Also, since talismans are not working they are not being limited by armor/toughness. Magus are just plain weak in t1/t2, but start to shine in t3 (assuming renown abilities are available).

Toughness reduces magic damage as well.

Engineers have a ranged auto attack via their rifle , magus have melee autos only I believe? They can actually burst with M2, and I believe armor debuffs are the most valuable resistance debuffs in the game. Their mastery tree that contains the pull is a bit better than magus, and lets face it... this is why you play engi/magus otherwise you would of played a real RDPS lol.

edit: Their rifle/spanner abilities should also scale w/ weapon dps. Magus abilities don't scale w/ staff DPS?

lower tiers

armor debuff > resists debuff

later game magus is the better class and has sexier armor

On destro magus is a pretty unpopular class where as there are a lot of engineers on ordo and with the low armor values and toughness on many classes engineers can easily hit for 100 dmg with each dot or dot

Difference is:
Engineers have their own regiment, Magi don't. ;)

High RR Havoc/Change magus could easily burst people down without blowing themselves up and had much much higher survivability with tough/armor stacking. BOC + SVF + IFOC was quite incredible. Were they like sorcs? No. But they were pretty competent.

Right, my bad. Armor mitigation was the main source of engies issues in t4.

Edit: No sustained or burst damage in t2 for Magi. Aoe is mediocre at this level.
