No characters displayed on game launch screen

Hi all, I installed this via the torrent method on my home PC and everything went smoothly, and I've been playing just fine for several days. I tried to do the same on my laptop that I keep at work, however, although the RoRLauncher runs fine, when I hit "connect" the next screen doesn't show any characters--and the small black box that usually displays the connection status remains blank.

I copied the existing folder that I had been using on my home PC directly to my laptop, and when I first tried to run it there was a message stating the resolution settings had been automatically updated to reflect this new computer. However, maybe I should have used a fresh install that hadn't been used yet? I tried emptying the cache folder, but that did nothing.

Or, could the corporate network I'm using be somehow blocking the server connection? (Both the web server and login server connections on the launcher are green).

If I need to use a fresh install, is there a way to only download the files needed to clean up what I already have, rather than having to download the entire 11Gb again?
