Addon Dev resources?

I'm a software dev by trade, but I'm new to WAR/RoR; are there any resources for how to develop addons? Maybe a hello-world addon to look at, and some tips on debugging them? I've looked a bit, but it's difficult to tell what applies, and I can't find any kind of API description at all. Any help appreciated!

It can be a bit difficult to find references to the War api but i suggest begining here:

it also have a "hello world" example as you stated
