hey, I am currently levelling a BO (I also have a SM in his 20s) and actually enjoying the class (both) mechanic and tank role.
BUT when I think of being able to fullfill my role with a 2H and thinking about WODS makes me want to go SM, that aside I love my BO in both look/lore and also what he does in gameplay terms.
I am asking the guys with more experience at lvl 40, can I as a SnB BO play a more offensive role (not talking about going full dps) on the same level of a SM 2hander?
I am more of a soloer, sometimes I join open warbands, but I will and I am mostly doing Scenarios and roam the lakes. (always did on LIVE too)
Is the BO snb for me or should I just go SM? Like I said it's mostly about WODS, it just feels like a better can't hit me in terms of survivability, mostly vs ranged as you can just run around with not giving a f***, while CHM snares me and I have to keep facing my enemies since block is frontal not like disrupt/dodge.
also, can a SnB BO equipped in a similiar way to a 2h SM deal the same kind of pressure?
Sidenote: I have a question about game mechanics that I am currently missing:
Does weapon DPS influence abilities tooltip dmg? or do they scale just out of Strenght and the weapon dps is just auto attack.

Re: Help me decide SM vs BO
SNB DPS BO can deal similar numbers to a SM, yes. With double spirit debuff nerfed, it is very close - with SM edging out on st dps on non squishies (and possibly AoE cleave), while the BO brings higher crit potential vs squishies.
SM is a much better 2h DPS tank. By that I mean it can perform its role of tank and DPS simultaneously with relative ease, while a BO requires high rr and good gear to pull off to a similar degree (yet will never be as good).
2H DPS BO has much higher crit potential than a 2H SM, but it's incredibly squishy and you'll be target number 1.
WODS is good, but it is selfish buff, while SNB BO brings a group-wide dodge/disrupt bonus via HTL.

consider that I am specifically comparing SnB BO vs 2H SM.peterthepan3 wrote:SNB DPS BO can deal similar numbers to a SM, yes. With double spirit debuff nerfed, it is very close - with SM edging out on sustained/possibly AoE cleave, and BO having larger crit potential.

2h BO is just a big no without a WODS like ability, ranged will just roast me alive. not interested in 2h bo for that.
so with that in mind, do u mean this compared to a SnB BO or to a 2H BO?peterthepan3 wrote: SM is a much better 2h DPS tank. in the end tho it just seems like I could make it work similiar to WODS against Ranged dps, if I just use 2 buttons instead of one (HTL+CHM vs WODS)

Re: Help me decide SM vs BO
I mean as a 2h offtank (i.e. including both tanking and damage), the SM performs better because he has better survivability via WODS.
SNB BO is perfectly viable, as you said you can use those 2 abilities to help you out when needed. Iirc, Xarrox (one of top SNB DPS BOs) used CHM in his THC spec?

Re: Help me decide SM vs BO
If your desire is to solo the lakes and pug SC's while on occasion joining groups for mass-scale action, then 2H SM is the proper choice. In addition 2H is just more fun.

Re: Help me decide SM vs BO
2h SM is superior to a 2h BO in every way. As Peter said, BOs require high RR (rr70 is a requirement) + BiS gear, and that's just to be close to not being a bad joke. The rr70 fact alone places the class in the trash can to start with.
Atm, the only reason to choose a 2h BO over a 2h SM is if you like the Greenskins theme more.

They done stole my character's names. Can't have **** in RoR.
Re: Help me decide SM vs BO
I have said and I will repeat:
2H BO is not a choice, I would just go 2H SM without even thinking twice.
it's between SnB BO and a 2H SM.
Can a SnB BO offer decent pressure as a 2H, be it scenarios or Solo Lakes.

Yes, SNB DPS BO works as well as a 2H SM for SC/group play. 2H SM is a better solo tank.

Re: Help me decide SM vs BO
I hoped people would have persuaded me of the opposite, as I kinda prefer destro and its greenskin train.peterthepan3 wrote:Yes, SNB DPS BO works as well as a 2H SM for SC/group play. 2H SM is a better solo tank.
But seems like SM is just more suitable for what I am looking for.
why do u think SM is better for solo? Is it just dmg or maybe the possibility to spec for parry striketrough?
