Hi there,
The post title is quite self-explanatory. As we all know, tactics in this game cannot be switched while in combat.
First of all, I don't know if there are other previous posts concerning this restricting feature of our beloved game. I've never seen any anyways.
Also, the original developers of WAR must have had a very good reason ti implement this rigid characteristic of tactics. I am not acquainted with it, maybe some of you know why, or can see the logic behind it that I fail to see.
The question is: What would happen If players were able to switch tactics depending on who they are fighting? Would it really be that bad for the game? I've been trying to think of reasons why that would be a bad idea, and I am sure I must have overlooked something. Please enlighten me, and I'm not being ironic. I just would like to know why, honestly.
All I see is the advantages it would bring about.
More flexibility means more creativity, rewarding players who carefully study the game and adapt to circumstances, creating different tactic sets.
It also means more specialization and individual work as opposed to generalization of cookie cutter builds.
Finally, it implies effectively raising the skill cap, contributing another step towards enabling skilled players to win vs bigger odds or overcoming some mismatches that come not from the players skill but from some classes being overpowered vs other classes by way of how some abilities in one class cannot be negated by the abilities in another one.
This idea came to me after watching Barracudax videos and witnessing how a few players that I know and Ive fought before, and I consider to be quite skilled, were defeated not by the skill of a player but by two or three abilities. Then I thought, "how would I fight a slayer on my mara?" there is a tactic that grants the brutality channel shatter enchantment, but no one would slot that tactic on a general basis over the best mara tactic.
My point is that Mythic created many tactics for each class, but only a handful of them are ever used. That's a waste of inventiveness and a dearth of variety, adaptability and skill. Imho, skill is all about adapting to the environment and reacting quickly. For some classes that only need to spam two or three skills it would at least force the players to press some more buttons and be more aware of the opposition.
A cooldown to prevent tactic swap from being spammed too happily? sure. But I think it would benefit the game greatly. Maybe I'm worng but I wanbted to sahre my thoughts

I think if this were to be implemented it should be only swapping the tactic sets. As in you only get 9 builds to switch too. However i also think there should be a cooldown to it. Freely switching tactics whenever I feel could quickly become exploitable and very tricky to balance. But I can deffinitly see where in a long RvR battle it could be cool to swap tactics. I just feel it might cause more harm than good.

No.
I think i would be kinda cool if 1 class and mirror had the option to do change 1 tactic on a longer CD while in combat as a part of their mechanic, but as it's explained in the combat video. Tactics are what you mount on the charoit and it determins how you gonna engage the combat. Once commited, you're commited.
(Morales are the cannons you mount and the build up is the fuse, if people remember)

That's really not going to happen here. No point discussing it.
