Changes all the time mate. This last patch is gonna shuffle the meta a bit. Just play a couple classes to R15 or so, see what feels good for you. Be sure to group up when you can. Better to play something you find fun, over what is the current perceived meta class. Everything is viable.

Well, very situational and depending on what you want to do.
But I'll give my vage opinion:

MDPS: White Lion / Marauder
RDPS: Bright Wizard / Squig Herder
Healing: Archmage / Shaman
Tank: Knight of the Blazing Sun / Black Orc

MDPS: Slayer or White Lion (provided that you have enough support, Slayer is slightly better)/Marauder
RDPS: Bright Wizard or Shadow Warrior/Squig Herder
Healing: Runepriest/Zealot (in almost all circumstances you want one of these guys in your group)
Tank: Knight of the Blazing Sun (arguably best tank in game)/Black Orc.

I'm a returning player and would like more information about the current PvP landscape so I can make the correct decision on what class to play.

Can you please tell me in your opinion, what are the current top classes in PvP for both Order and Destro for the following categories: melee dps, ranged dps, healing, and tanking. Thank you!

Mdps: Mara, White Lion
Rdps: Squig, SW
Heal: WP/DoK for big fights, Zealot/RP all around good, shaman/AM decent for smaller scale
Tank: Chosen, Knight, though SM and BO can provide some nice group buffs too.
