Name change - a simple question

I know this has been answered before, and I have, in fact, read those threads and followed the instructions posted there. I am still encountering an issue though, and as such, I just have a simple question:

Does .namechange still work, or has it been disabled? Does it need to be verified by a GM first?

I'm asking because I've been trying to change my name for a few minutes now, and even when doing exactly as described in other threads, my character's name remains the same. And if it's because a GM needs to verify it, I just want to apologise for making it seem like I am spamming the request (a genuinely unintended mistake).

PS: Yes, I am both level 40 and RR 40.

It should work, check the armory to make sure you're not trying to use a name that already exists.

I hadn't considered that someone already had the name, and it was indeed the case. I found another name and it's now working. Thank you.

In any case, like I mentioned, I got the name change I wanted, so this thread is redundant.
