[Black Orc] Tier 1&2 - Renown Farming (tank build)

TIER 1 (Rank 1- Rank 12)

This is not a guide, not even list of what-to-win for anyone, just my observation and wish you guys can give me some teevs on how-to-be-better-boss!

1) I made a black orc at the start, do leveling quest to get the basic gear (from gloves to T-shirt)(no cape, no helmet)

2) Didn't do the PQ (except the quest) & stop all questing on rank 5. Immediately que for scenarios. For newcomers, the game will automatically adjust your rank hence your stat to suit the battle.

it seems the formula also include gear stat, I start with level14; after i gain some survivalist gear from "renown gear" vendor, "free levels" drop. But the free stats are all rounded, so your performance is "all around" (pun)

3)walk all the way south to da bluest camp ya can find!, go to the renown gear vendor. I decided to prioritize on stats = toughness> wound> strength

Toughness / 5 = - X Enemy DPS
1 wound = 10 hp
ability DPS = Str/5
Auto Attack = Str/10

Toughness filter EACH damage, Wound only eats (duh!) Hence, i make sure my gear are toughness oriented (survivalist gear, etc)

4) I bought four(4) chain of revenge; each has 8 toughness and other elemental resistance, but unable to equip at first... boohh! I buy them because stat per gold, they give most resistance; nothing more.

5) I use the rotation "follow me lead" [1st plan] > "Tuffer 'n Nails" or "Trip 'Em Up" [2nd plan] > "Skull Thumper" [3rd plan]

sometime, i use "taunt" to 1v1-ish & "hold the line" when RDPS focus me down. The rotation gives me the buff i need & time for my DPS team to focus fire order faction.

My job is simply keeping my teammate in line, not solo or focus dps. I will stand in the far front to eat fire (literally), so my backline is doing their job. I always took enemy attention by charging into 25? of them, focus hit any DPS only. But 1 rotation (sometime 1/2 only!) will suffice in the job, retreat back; let my healers do wonder. REPEAT.

I do purposely stand in front of my team, just to divert their attention in case enemy dps flank our side. You will be shocked this tactic drops empire tanks like flies.

6) Que more scenarios & kill some shinny people on da beach! Also head to the church objective point to farm some NPC. They drop all the gold I need and fill up the down time when those shinny people are zogging lazy.

7) I spend 1/2 day to reach rank 10, i thought the renown rank is easier leveling than my rank due to some items require higher rank than renown.



That's it. That's my 1/2 day black orc foot thundering advendcha!

Tier 2 (Rank 12-21)

Waaagh! I survived the little war at the Sand! Now let see what loot the shinny people keep foh themselves in that forest!

1) Continuation from the 1st tread, my black orc got its entire set of the gear except helmet & cape are looted from the battle. The bloodshed continues until reaching rank 12/Renown 12. Go back to the camp, take a flight to Ostland, Raven Edge Camp.

2) I pick this spot because it is just on the edge of RvR zone; on its east located the only (1) functional Public quest; Ride to the west you will get a big destro town (it's on fire!) and most importantly Destro Keep for your GEARS.

3) On the highest floor of the destro keep, there are 1 mastery trainer & 3 vendors for rank 15-20 gears. Bloody important. ( i bought toughness/wound)

4) But still, surprised there's isnt a single renown trainer, forced to take a flight to Inevitable city; the pyramid with floating block on the west side of the map will get the job done. The central does sell emblem based items, undercroft sells gold based items & medalion based items, I can just stay here & que battles.

I pursue the path of Da Boss!; i got the "we'z bigger" more armor for allies around me.

Renown point is currently dumped into Vigor(wound stat). Until I get a full rank, then fortitude(toughness stat).

Simple plan for a simple boss....

5) Fly back to Ostland once again, and start que-ing the scenario battle and farm order hand gunsmen at the Raven Edge camp. The gold is superbly important in buying that juicy boar mount & the gears in the destro keep.

Join the RvR action from time to time, can't solo it eh? If it happen, enjoy the meat grind.

Even though i like the grand scale of the battle, I had to comment que for scenario has much more values and rewards according to time invested. You get your bag filled with stuffs and gold, shinny people are obliged to engage you. Killa Heaven!

6) Ability wise i start using 'Da Biggest' (party boosting) & 'Da Toughest' (surviving) buff

Rotation wise is "wot armor" > "trip Em up" or " Tuffer N nails" or " We'z bigger" > "Savin Me hide"

"Taunt" is great to pursue finishing blow.

Get em' , challenge, We'z bigger are the main buff to the team. More allies around me, tougher they are.

The whole rotation is the sum of damage reduction intake & the buff/debuff to soften up orders and toughen up destro.

7) My role as da big boss! hasn't fail or diminished value in the form of meat tank. The experience i've got is still superb/same as T1 is. Except I had debuff/buff role in the battle this time. It's much emphasizing mitigating damage for your mate. I can't praise much how game changing battle bellow is.

Since this was posted in 2008 is it still a relevant guide? I only ask due to a lot of conflicting current discussions regarding armor vs toughness. This article stresses toughness so just wanted to confirm since I am not a number cruncher and rely heavily on the forums for build guidance.
