Donating for stuff Good idea or Bad idea?

hello i have an idea on how to fund this project that wont get us sued. What about donations and when people donate they can get in game items or other stuff so then you will be able to hire more devs to help work on this game. So for 5-10 pounds (10-15 usd i think) you can get a cloak for your class or something like that BUT this might be considered pay to win but i want to hear what you guys think. You can argue saying "donating will help fund the game" but you can also say "it will then become pay to win" so i dont know or pay for cosmetic stuff. Im pretty sure anyone who loves Warhammer Return of Reckoning and Age of Reckoning will donate but i cant speak for others have a great day

Firstly, this game is not in a state yet in which we can be giving exclusive items to people for money.
Secondly, this project has to stay non-profit to ensure the money grabbers from EA and the IP protectors from GW won't hunt us down.

Donations, if ever implemented, should go towards cosmetic changes ONLY. Such as special appearance armor of item models nobody has been able to wear on their armor, which can only be used with the appearance system (which isn't even fixed yet), or for boxes of endless dye, or for limited edition/collector's edition trinkets such as the Iron Choppa Jaw or Orc Headplate.

This is per definition a microtransaction.
If you make a donation you don't have any direct return consideration.
So microtransactions will never work and even donations have a high chance to call for this guys:

All the EA/GW Lawyers have to do, is to prove that others make some money with the companys intellectual property.

If i could be 100% sure that it wouldn't ruin the project, i would be the first to give some money. :D

Yes I can see all your guys points and as I'm thinking about it i can see how it can become micro transaction based but even cosmetic stuff would be pretty cool when they get the transmog working thanks for the coments :)
