Tips for "tanky" Engineer

Hi there, I have a few questions regarding engineer, for those veterans of the class:

My idea is to roam solo, not in a group. How do you go about building an engy that can take some damage, like to survive a WE opening on you, or some melee pressure if you get caught with champion challenge for example? I take good care to write "tanky" between inverted commas as I suspect an engy can never reach a level of survival and toughness comparable to not even a squishy tank:)

I guess you must go for the tinkerer path for the self heal keg and I guess magnet can be a survival tool too. At least that's what I heard. Is magnet useful if you get swarmed or a some bursty melee catches you? How should I spend my mastery points?

How about renown points?

As for talismans I guess armor is the way to go. I have always wondered: Do armor racial tactic+flak jacket+armor pot stack? if so the amount of armor engies can get isn't negligible.

I thought the tactic that halves the time you remain KD'd on the ground could be useful too, especially against WEs. Any thoughts?

I wouldnt really go tinkerer, the regen isnt all that good, any decent dps will burn through it easily, and magnet, well maybe you could catch a bad sorc off guard and kill them with it, but again, a decent one wont fall for it. I prefer grenadier, gives you an extra dot to use while moving and a better debuff on acid bomb, but you could try rifleman too. Either way spec doesnt matter that much, as long as you run insta turret tactic and make sure you use your turret kd/knockback/root to keep melee away from you while you dot them up + kite youll be fine. Takes practice if you arent used to kiting, and its harder than being a sw (is anything not?), but its worth it.

Also ive never been a fan of armor stacking on a dps. It doesnt help that much vs we's/maras, choppas should be easy kills, and squigs are going to murder you anyways, plus it does nothing vs casters. You could run the racial tactic without losing much, but i wouldnt stack it on your gear, wounds/tough are more effective + cheaper.

And the tactic for reduced stun duration, besides not being sure if it even works (it was broken half the time even on live, no idea about it here), its really not worth it, the armor tactic should be enough. maybe in t4 it will be worth it vs certain classes but not now

I think stacking defensive stats, RR skills and tactic would be too much because you'll lose too much dmg output. going a good middle way would be the answer. maybe def RR skills but using BS talis

i saw some solo roaming engi youtube videos and they all ran with the tinkerer path, because thats the one with melee combat skills.

Flat jacket should not stack with armor pots, they're both buffs.

1vs1if you see her stealth pop a mine under your feet will give you time to start kiting.

They didnt stack in early years of war,but they change it by lowering armor value provided from jacket and made it to stack with armor pots. The same for magus.

For solo roam and keep siege healing keg is esential. You heal You and You friendlies while U leech ren.exp and inf :-) heal amount now in t3 isnt huge, but its constant and with 30s cooldown You can have double proc when it end. Combine with heal overtime pot,u can solo most classes(maybe even bad shammies:-) ). Key is have enouhg defensive stats to survive initial burst and keep melees in distance(knockback, turret knockdown, root)

I would go for spec like this: http://waronlinebuilder.org/#career=eng ... 1:0:3646:0:

Stack for dodge/disrubt and wound or touhnes renowns. As talismans I would go for some armor and toughnes or maybe balistic. I would attack with grenadier abbilities and rifleman dots since they dont need any armor penetration, because Your weapon skill will be utterly low :-)
