Except for some range calculations and a few ability bugs most of the core of the game works pretty much as it did. The client always was full of gimmicks like these.

jump never boost speed on official server it only work that way if you jump after you had a fading speed boost; even if the buff got away jumping 1 sec or half before let you keep the buff until the land, and it was ok, also jump was used at the right moment to avoid aoe CC like root stag ( duno if that was intentionaly, but you can never avoid melee aoe by jumping)
Jump increase a little your speed ( or range duno, it happen that jumping allow you for some moment to being able to hit running enemy slightly out of range) but only until you land, after that you get slightly reduction, that's way ppl would be able to snare a kitter or a running enemys by jumping.
Few notice that just like the poor auto-facing meccanic...

You have to jump while kiting. While in the air you can change the view direction of your char without losing speed.

There was an issue with jumping and avoiding ground based aoes such as the slayer spamming was patched way back in the day.

This is used from time to time when necessary, like you have to jump over terrain from time to time while kiting. I don't think anyone will complain about that.
It's about the people that "lag away" from you by permanently bunny hopping as soon as their feet land on the ground.

ya also that could been done with tank, run jump re watch in enemys direction so that you could make permament snare less effective while have block, parry, dodge

Look up "suspension of disbelief" and "repetitive strain injury"

As far as I remember, jumping while running forward did not speed me up on RoR server and it did not on AoR live servers. But I notice jumping while strafingactually did.
