As incredible rightly points out, enforcing the rules differently based on such considerations would have been a political decision. This is not a political decision. We cannot be blamed for a guild's collective response to a sanction - THEY choose that response. We are not forcing them to make that choice. I find even the slightest suggestion that the staff should enforce rules differently based on how valuable or not a player is considered to be to the server
very troubling indeed, and I would go so far as to label such a stance as supporting injustice and corruption.

Yes, and I regret that they've made that choice. The point I have to reinforce is that THEY made that choice, not us. It is only natural for certain types of players and guilds to attempt to apply pressure to the staff in order to be treated differently. I want to use these early cases that we encounter while still in alpha (and there was a very similar one a year ago which some people may remember) to illustrate that no matter what, we will not treat anyone differently. That way, future players will know that this is how we do things around here and they will not attempt to call cases in the past where we've relented, unjustly, because of political considerations in order to get special treatment.
