Re: People not joining SC's
Btw I'm seeing quite often that some people broadcast Enemy addon's scenario alert while in a scenario. I guess that they have QueueQueuer addon and they get a sc pop even though they are already in one.

I think this is a pretty good point.Azarael wrote:This is happening a lot lately, so let me put it on the record: You're all actually testers,
We all have an idea of how it should be. But perhaps we should document it instead. Give the people making the decision something to work with.
Without giving names or calling people out, can you make some sort of statement about how SC are going for you, good or bad.
What was your SC experience like? Did you win or lose? By how much? Are you seeing the same people again and again? Are there particular premades that seem to be farming you?
Let the staff know what your actual experience is.
Re: People not joining SC's
If you want the players to consider themselves testers -- a view which I think has some merit -- then disrespectful comments have no place, because after all, you are talking with a community of people who freely donate their time to test your hobby project. You can't have it both ways.Azarael wrote:This is happening a lot lately, so let me put it on the record: You're all actually testers, therefore the queue won't be removed. Please don't complain when you end up having to serve your purpose to this project.

I think you would flip your **** if you saw some the of stuff being posted in destro advice today lol. No one there realizes this is an alpha.Azarael wrote:By the way, the idea of using a public test server has been floated, but was rejected for two reasons:
- Doubt that anyone would play on the PTS when requested to
- The realization that the players are testers anyway, and should know what they signed up for

Another thing to add to this sort of constructive feedback is to make observations and share your conclusions in what could be the problem in various unbalanced/broken parts of the game. This helps the devs a lot more than the whining and demanding of a fix, if you try to help in understanding the problem. Even just a few player insights in what may be the reason for things breaking, is much more helpful than stating the obvious emotional arguments associated with such broken features.Wraithedge wrote:I think this is a pretty good point.Azarael wrote:This is happening a lot lately, so let me put it on the record: You're all actually testers,

Re: People not joining SC's
This 'realisation' doesn't matter to most people; they're enjoying the game despite its flaws. I think it's always a vocal minority that makes it seem as if most of us are obtuse fools as to the developments and efforts being put into this project; while in reality there's people out there that actually do wish to help the best they can in balance/bugfixing. I'm not sure how much benefit a public test server would have or how many numbers it'd require, but maybe you could make a thread and pool the community's consensus/willingness on helping on a PTS before assuming that nobody would be interestedAzarael wrote:By the way, the idea of using a public test server has been floated, but was rejected for two reasons:

Here's one volunteer for test server work, at least.

I disagree on a number of points here:kintari wrote:If you want the players to consider themselves testers -- a view which I think has some merit -- then disrespectful comments have no place, because after all, you are talking with a community of people who freely donate their time to test your hobby project. You can't have it both ways.
- This isn't my project, as in, I don't lead it - regardless of any appearances
- I do my level best in order to make sure that the playing experience is as good as possible, despite having no obligation to and being the only one actually to engage with the playerbase on any significant level (much to the chagrin of some Destruction players)
- I don't think my comment was at all disrespectful - I feel it was a legitimate response to being told to remove a feature which is admittedly broken but cannot be tested elsewhere
- A lot of players aren't here because they want to help, they're here because they enjoy playing the game, so I don't feel beholden to very many people, if any
- If my comment does seem terse, it is precisely because some players are showing an entitled attitude that is completely out of place in a project that is free to play
I may have mentioned before that I was given advice not to yield to what players wanted or to satisfy their expectations because this would be the end result, and I am beginning to understand why that advice was given to me.
Re: People not joining SC's
That's fine. I didn't mean to imply this was solely your work, or that you lead it, that was not the best phrasing. I've had enough contact with the dev team to know otherwise. I also don't mean to imply you are putting in less effort than you should.Azarael wrote:I disagree on a number of points here:kintari wrote:If you want the players to consider themselves testers -- a view which I think has some merit -- then disrespectful comments have no place, because after all, you are talking with a community of people who freely donate their time to test your hobby project. If you disagree with my main point, I would encourage you to review your post history over the last 2 weeks or so. Your comments can stand on their own, and players can judge for themselves. All I am saying is, if I communicated with testers at work the way that you communicate with the player base sometimes, I would catch serious **** for it, and justifiably so.
If you wish to communicate with and deal with actual testers on a more professional level, it might be time (as others have suggested here) to reopen the idea of a PTS with a limited set of players whose attitudes you can tolerate for longer periods of time.
I would also encourage other members of the development team to communicate more, because you are correct, you do most of the communication, and at times it seems like maybe it is becoming a burden that you no longer wish to bear.

So how about the community, you included, stop being disrespectful and demanding asses and contribute to this project?
And for the love of w/e , DO make a difference between spending time PLAYING on a server and actually DEVELOPING the server. People playing here are donating NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Yes they help with reports and such but please , just please do not come out saying that they donate their time. Reconsider your words when you gonna publicly make a clown out of yourself.
Re: People not joining SC's
I have never believed in sugarcoating when I do not have to, nor do I have any employer to satisfy within this project. Therefore, you may find that I deliver honest, open and perhaps disrespectful responses rather than maintaining a facade, simply because I'm not obligated to be anyone other than my true self. I consider that to be a luxury afforded by the nature of this project, and fully accept that it would be suppressed if circumstances were different.kintari wrote:If you disagree with my main point, I would encourage you to review your post history over the last 2 weeks or so. If you feel there are occasions where I have overstepped the line, I'd be interested to know. My worst responses are likely to be those dealt to people who do not read the stickies in the support forums, and within the Group Queue request thread.
Oh, and this:
should definitely not have been posted - I will happily apologise for that.Azarael wrote:Known and not my problem. All I care about is the group queue right now. Any other issues that come out as the result of other people's requests are their problem.
Not everyone is going to like or agree with how I behave - such is the risk with being oneself rather than presenting a professional mask. I have never wanted to present myself as yet another all-too-nice developer who is a punching bag for entitled people, or as someone who interacts with the community distantly, through a wall of false politeness.
We do have a number of internal testers, however there are not enough of them and they are not available consecutively for long enough to do solid testing on the group queue.
