Thanks again for more great replies, very helpful community. I can see there are conflicting opinions on what is fun for a weekend and what is "good", and what we should go for! Of course I would expect different opinions given that we are of course different people haha.
I think I will do a bit of reading on all the classes, the BO tank sounds like exactly something one of our group would like (he loves "hard" classes). The healers are tougher as while it sounds like DoK is great, it might be boring at the levels we play. Might have to take a gamble on these ones and just pick some. Perhaps one DoK and some other healer so that way only one might bored! DPS sounds like lots of choice, Marauder being great though.
Sounds like we might struggle getting some great PvP though unless we commit to "endgame". That's a bit of a worry, but I suppose is going to happen no matter what when you play MMOs - sort of how they are designed! Thanks again for all the replies.

That is entirely incorrect. You can and will get AWESOME PvP from lvl 1. T1 is by far my absolute favorite PvP. Most classes don't actually function properly, so they are all inherently balanced. Yes, you get rolled by lvl 10-11's, but upon entering a SC(of which you can solo or group que from lvl 1) or the ORvR lakes(again can enter right away, but it is a bit of a walk) you receive a "bolster" to your stats to compensate for your low lvl.
T2 can be a little frustrating PvP wise, but it is still fun. My least favorite Tier. Edit: t2 is where you see your first Keeps to defend and attack.
T3 has most classes with all their go-to abilities and as such, power creep can start to set in. But with RR (you have lvl ranks and renown ranks, RR is only from PvP) capped at your lvl, you wont get steam-rolled. Edit: T3 is where you see expanded keeps with 2 set's of door's to be taken down.
I would NOT suggest power leveling if you are a group of newbies. Level up some characters and learn the fundamentals of the game. I guarantee you will enjoy the PvP in all it's forms from a low lvl.

Archmages, while differing from the stereotypical group, provide tons of dps, heals, and rez (at 10). Beyond that we've had a lot of success through T2 and T3 with an all AM group.
That said, if you are only weekend players for a few hours it really doesn't matter which side or which class you play as they all are fun.
