best duo combo with engi?

Ok so I am still deciding my main class but I got a friend to start downloading the game and he will want an archer. I am guessing a Dorf engineer is gonna be his best bet but what would be the best class to duo with him?

Off topic, but I remember back on Live there was this group of multiboxed Engi's who would all drop Cannon Smash at the same time (if I remember correctly Cannon Smash was a 2400 damage and a large armour debuff Morale 3?).
Pretty hilarious seeing a 10k health tank get instantly dropped to dead.

Well, of course. It was bannable on Live, too.
I was just remembering how hilarious being hit with multiple Cannon Smashes at the same time was.

I made a duo engineers with a friend on live to like RR 80 it was really fun.

Engineers aren't that great for 12v12/6v6 SC's (hopefully we get 24v24 scs eventually) but otherwise are really great in ORvR.

With this spec you guys with both have heal kegs (which stack) and good enough damage ST and AoE

And a lot of room to play with different tactic setups etc...

If your friend wants to play an archer, I heavily suggest Shadow Warrior. It is a much more viable class than the Engineer as a whole. Although both classes are clearly worse than a Bright Wizard as far as overall performance goes.

For what pairs well with either the Engineer or Shadow Warrior, I would suggest someone who can heal as the best combination (aka a healbot), if you don't want to go pure heals, a damage oriented Archmage would in my opinion, be the best partner. Otherwise a warrior priest, or rune priest, is a fine choice as well.

The problem with choosing a tank or MDPS to duo with an RDPS as far as potency goes is really one of positioning. A tank who is babysitting a RDPS with guard isn't going to be doing much fighting unless that RDPS is getting rushed at by other melee.

The last option is to choose your own RDPS class, and focus fire with your friend. I would still, overall, suggest a DPS Archmage as you can still toss some healing your friends way, but if you really want to play a Bright Wizard or an Engineer or whatever you could make it work, especially if you can ping-pong kite people (they run at one of you, the other slows/CCs them, they run at the other guy, your partner does the same).

The best friend of an Engineer of course is another engineer! :)

Both with path of the Tinkerer and Bugmans self Heal Kegs.
They are a blast at Keep defence and with both kegs out they are unkillable by equal numbers. And you get renown in no time.

If you want see some Engineer Band of Brothers in Action look here. And we are not multiboxrs, every dwarf a real enthusiast. 8-)
