I really enjoyed my time with a SM.
But yeah, they lack the group support the other tanks have, you just gotta know what you're going into.
It is a fun class, it can do a good amount of dps if specced for it, and it can tank very well.
But you don't have good group support like the others, and that sums it up!

It comes down to synergy top dps in the game on order are bw and slayers, so you pick the tanks around those classes.

A knight provides a resistance debuff and group buffs for the bw as well as handing out crit for the entire group.

An Iron breaker has an out going heal debuff, good assist damage and an armour debuff to make the slayer hit even harder. Also that good single target punt is great for ccing tanks something knights cant yet do effectively.

You just have so little utility for the group in comparison.
Khorlar, Thorvold, Sjohgar, Anareth, Toldavf, Hartwin, Gotrin and others -_-

dosnt matter cause we know down the line slayers are gonna get nerf to shatter limbs spam and id will be made clenseable so that their not a 3 button rotation cheese class like they were on live

and wls will get buffed and they pair well with sm's
