Hi! Finally I started to play this game i wanted to do a long time ago.
But before start, i would like to know a few things.
1. If i pick an order character, can i create a destro later?
2. What is the "best" class for a beginner? I really like the pets, so looking around I saw White Lion and Squig Heder are the only ones that have one (maybe engineer? not sure if it has something). Are those classes useful in the end game, or they just become useless or not wanted in groups etc.
3. How balanced is the server? I read one of the better things of this game are the RvR. Is that kind of game balanced? Or always one side wins?
4. What is the most needed characters in each faction? Do they need tanks? Healers?
5. Are the classes balanced between them? I mean, all can be useful, or there a few classes much better than others?
Thank you!

1: Yes, also there is no lockout timer, so you can switch between them at will.
2: There is no real best class to play. Most of the classes have a unique mechanic that makes them interesting. If you really have no MMO experience, I'd stay away from classes like Sorc/BW, Slayer/Choppa, because their mechanic punishes them as well as rewards.
Seeing you like pets, Squig Herder maybe a good option. It's able to DPS from range and stay in the backlines. WL needs to worry more about not over extending and group positioning.
Another option is playing a tank, I'd suggest Black Orc, as I believe it's the easiest to play of the tanks. The massive surviviblity of a tank lets you make mistakes and not pay as harshly for them.
3. From my limited experience on the server so far, it's balanced pretty 50/50. The population will swing depending on the time of day. One side doesn't seem to dominate the other.
4. I'd always suggest playing what you want! First and foremost, you have to enjoy the character.
5. This is a tough one to answer, you will get 1000 different opinions from 1000 different people. It also depends on what your trying to get out of your class. For example, Witch Elfs/Witch Hunters, DPS DoKs/WPs, DPS AMs/Shamans aren't as useful in a group setting, but a lot of fun if your trying to run around solo. Engi, Magus, Swordmaster, Shadow Warrior, Squig Herder, DPS DoK/WP, DPS Shaman/AM, Witch Hunter and Witch Elf aren't usually the first choice of groups.
In my opinion, the core classes usually picked for premade 6 mans (at lvl 40) are:
Order: (Tanks) Iron Breaker, KotBS (Healers) Warrior Priest, AM or RP, most groups always have a Warrior priest and one of AM or RP....usually RP. (DPS) Slayer, WL, BW
Destro: (Tanks) Chosen, BG, BO (Healers) DoK, Zealot or Shaman, same as Order DoK + 1 (DPS) Mara, Choppa, Sorc

Re: A few questions before starting
Pet classes I wouldn't suggest starting with as the ai for the pets is pretty bad

Re: A few questions before starting
1. Order is the current winning and overpopulated side due to terrible balancing issues, but you can still roll destro
2. If you want pets, WL is a :| machine on two legs. Can fly 75ft and murder squishy targets in two GCD cycles. Squggies are crap
3. See #1, order is heavily favored due to balance, more population, and with the current horrible change to RvR now over-geared/leveled. More and more destro players leave everyday and the 'devs' refuse to adress it.
4. Just roll what you want
5. Balance does not exist, all order classes are many times superior to the destro ones due to key abilites.

Re: A few questions before starting
Thank you all for your answers!
Well, finally i decided to play a WL so i could get a pet, and for the moment i don't regret it, I like having a lion at my side! (well, some things like the pet's taunt seams to be bugged, but it's ok). The only thing I regret, i don't know why but i find really hard to hit someone in the PvP, or at least i don't feel like a do any damage, but it will take some time to control it well
And about the balanced, all the PvP i have done, always the destro wins, but it's ok for me. But more important, I saw a destro character summoning something like demons... what character is that?

its the enginners mirror class but unlike enginner whos every strong at the early stage of the game and becomes weaker later on
magus is weak at this stage of the game and becomes very strong later on

Re: A few questions before starting
The first part is not true. The problem are ppl who can't kite on a rdps. Magical damage is good on any level.Coryphaus wrote: magus is weak at this stage of the game and becomes very strong later on
Dying is no option.

why would you need to kite when melee range checks screws with melee to the extent that it does the kiting for you
furthermore magus is missing some of its key abilites and tactics like close combat and stuff
