A work around, would be to have your range dps be your main target caller. When I played a Sorc on live, I'd be the one calling kill targets. As a range DPS I have a better overview of the field and made it easier to call targets.
Not really. Fights are dynamic, meaning you keep changing targets all the time (specially when enemy tanks swap guard). So the rDPS won't be able to click on the best target (at least not efficiently) anyway.
SH calls a target (WP). Choppa assists, but enemy group protects the WP. Now he is guarded and focus healed, so his health barely drops. Choppa notices the Slayer is unguarded now and at like 50% health. This is the perfect time to focus him. Destro frontline attacks the Slayer, but the SH can't click on him (he is surrounded by a BO, Choppa, KotBS, WL, SM, and 2 WPs). BO and Choppa get the Slayer to 5% but he gets morale healed and is now guarded again while SH was desperately trying to click on him.
That's why we run with Mara/Choppa and not a SH or Sorc.
I do agree, /assist would make things easier and teamwork more fluid. It would also be the most beneficial to range dps.
Your right fights are dynamic and I think melee trains have always been easier to play in WAR. Melee trains are very strong and are especially strong at the lower lvls (t2).
I personally found, that when facing a tough group most target switchs are pre-planned. Your focusing one target, guard and resources are switched to that target. You put mild but not full damage on that target, while saving cooldown, building AP, quick switch to another target and burst for the kill.
For full disclosure (lol), myself and a group of friends started playing here a couple days ago. 7 of us total, all played RR100s on live. The group comp we made, IB/KotBS/Slayer/Slayer/WP/RP .....melee train.
(My experience is High RR T4 play. I just started playing here and this server is a lot different im sure, with lvl 26s running around T2. Balance is all out of wack at these levels too. Sorc at T4 with high RR was a single target burst DPS god. SH was no longer viable. In T2 I remember SH being still really strong. So I default to your experience and expertise if you have been playing here long.
