If i may (i am no sorc god player) i would avoid melee range spec. You can aoe safely from distance thanks to black horror and gloom+spike.

I am fresh 40 too on my sorc and you basically zero utility and are probably the most useless fresh 40 in the game as a sorc.

The lows are plenty and the highs are few til you get geared and you are super reliant on your team always

But that being said I am crazy and still sticking it out too lol

The build I am thinking is probably best for lower gear is go for Impending Doom in Agony and Absorb Vitality in Calamity.

Just dot up the kill target and send a hand of ruin basically.

I always almost always use Shadow Disaster and Vision of Doom tactics outside of zerging. Shadow of Disaster is big buff to your spirit dmg and most of this build is spirit dmg and Vision of Doom makes your Word of Pain crit like 1.8k-2k with full dark magic even with crap gear.

I hope you're still playing with these less than encouraging replies. Sorc in warbands is EXTREMELY in demand and is one of the best Destro classes. It's a personal favorite of mine and it's very easy to top zones in damage. e.g this week: https://killboard.returnofreckoning.com ... 812cfe78eb

You will need a guard but you bring buffs to your party. As you gain RR, you go towards Impending Doom which will be used as a fast Dark Magic builder and a great single target finisher.

Key abilities:
Infernal wave (think of this as your shotgun blast), use it on CD
Disastrous Cascade, this is your DPS channel ability, massive 360 degree damage, use it on the warband leader's channel call
Searing Pain, add to your rotation post DC, i use it twice and rebuild with Impending Doom
Ice Spikes, your damage layering, use it early in a fight

Shadow Knives is a bit more situational but there are plenty of tools for a sorc to drop some serious damage even at mid range

1. AoE damage during blob clashes. The Magus is worse.
2. Crits.
3. Style. An ugly flying manhole cover with a guy glued to it - it’s the worst design in the game
4. The element of surprise in solo play. Sorcs are usually underestimated more than Magi

This is what you should expect (SC, T4). Killboard skirmish data is another source of reliable performance and you will hardly ever see a top SORC on monthly or weekly 10:s. Don't get fooled by how BW performs
