Thanks!

I play both my Slayer and my Sorcerer solo, and trust me: you’re going to cough up blood, my friend! But your fights will often be epic, and you’ll have the advantage of being underestimated. Practice, perseverance, and keeping your nerves under control always pay off eventually. Pick your fights carefully, and steer clear of the posers who call themselves solo roamers while playing ego-specced hybrid classes.

By the way, what do you mean by ego-specced hybrid classes? Like DPS healers?

It's gonna be more than hard mode, brother; it's gonna be ultra-nightmare-hardcore+++ mode.

Roaming on my BO, I didn't care about dying either, as it was always worth grinding through the deaths for the good 1v1 fights. The problem is that after the healer and MDPS patches, it became non-stop dying for an increasingly small number of 1v1 fights, and those 1v1 fights were mostly against classes that were paper to BO's (dirt)rock. This was a good while ago; I've heard the lakes are even worse now.

In the end, I realized I wasn't having fun anymore and stopped roaming. Sure, you'll get kills, and you'll still occasionally get a good 1v1 fight, but the time investment for so little reward stopped being worth it. The game has left BO behind for solo (S+ tier group class though).

I wish you the best of luck out there. The best tip I can give is to roam during off-hours, when the lakes are quieter. Roaming around prime-time is nothing but pure masochism.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and check out Pahakukka's channel. That will give you all the solo roaming tips you need.

Unfortunately, all the solo-roaming has fried his brain, so he hasn't put a link to it in his sig - https://www.youtube.com/@daewuur

How did mdps patches hurt BO in particular? I know dps healers are some of the strongest now in roaming but what about mdps? It's a shame because BO looks so cool that roaming it just looks fun (but I guess isn't so much anymore?)

Many players aren’t looking for a challenge or technical fights. They only want to stroke their fragile little egos, and through this childish, ridiculous behaviour, they distort and ruin what little genuine solo roaming remains in RoR.
Classes such as DPS healers or stealth regen/toughness builds serve no real purpose other than making things easier for the masses without requiring any genuine investment from them.
In short, you’ll soon realise that there are unfortunately very few true solo roamers left, and you’ll learn to recognise them very quickly.

Solo roaming is rough at the best of times, as more often than not you find zero fights, turn a corner and then get choo-choo trained by a WB. Once you’re a bit of a known name, WBs will often chase you as a solo into PvE.

The game no longer really caters to solo, but it’s still what I like to play - for precisely the same reason as you say: a personal challenge.

There are classes that are much better suited to solo than others. Stealth until the recent patch, and arguably still. rDPS healers in particular.

You can still be successful with non-meta classes, and I solo roamed on my assault (mDPS) Shadow Warrior for over a year, and did pretty decent, and more so after the recent patch.

You do need to have a thick skin and not get discouraged quickly, but fun can still be had.

It’s probably likely that the meta will skew even further towards ranged with the pending renown point changes, and I suspect that melee will struggle further in solo - unless said melee has high mobility and/or burst.
