No play/charater creation button?

I loaded the game and everything works but i get to a screen that just has the 4 button on the bottom and it says im running 1.4.8 patch.

I have no button to click otherwise.

I have a black box to the middle right of the screen where text and or the play button is suppoed to be. I have already gone through all the files and unmarked them as read only. Please help so i can play this game again!

I have the same problem, and after a few moments the game crashes with the critical error: Authentication failed

There are a lot of possibilities. If you're at the blank character select screen, you might not have DirectX 9. It's required for WAR and does not come default on modern OS's (Win8/10).

I also have this problem, and I can confirm that installing directX 9 does not fix it. Is the server blocking connections somehow?

Check your anti-virus and firewall. Try using a vpn. http://www.hotspotshield.com/ is recommended, use the UK server. Are you sure there isn't an error window that pops up in the background when you run the RoRLauncher? They can be sneaky.

Making exceptions to all of the patchers and executables (RoR patcher, testpatch, Warpatch, etc.) in my firewall did the trick. The game is able to connect now that my firewall has allowed access to the entirety of the game's contents.
