Wow, devs... you really need to take another look at the Magus. Were you trying to make one particular player happy, or just trying to generate pages and pages of forum posts by making it ridiculously overpowered?
There are definitely some good changes for the class in this patch, but you seriously went a bit overboard with its potential DPS...

ppagli74 wrote: Sun Jul 26, 2026 11:20 pm The burst damage for the magus on the PTS is absolutely insane. I've never played the class before, but I managed to pull off a 3s burst of 10114 and a 1s burst of 7441.

I feel sorry for order melee players, if this goes live without changes. I can only imagine what an experienced magus player will be able to do.

Image
Imho, dps and burst potential should be tied to range (risk - reward) : melee > 25-30 ft > 65 ft > 100 ft, ergo ST Magus and Engi should be one of the lowest burst specs.
Now we are on the same page. OMG these numbers are insane.

Maybe everyone logs destro and plays Magus?
If you do not find order anymore, they need to create something like friendly fire to keep the game running?
Those numbers are just ridiculous.

WTF guys

The 20% damage buff from the pet and the +15% from the tactic both have been in-game for so long. It is just suddenly that you guys decided they are a problem?

If anything we should discuss over the changes proposed on this patch:

- Getting the +20% buff inmediately was in order to make RvR Wb vs Wb situations manageable for the class mechanic. If the instant access to the 20% buff is a problem, an alternative could be to make "Chaotic attunement" tactic effect by default on the class. Instant cast on pet and 0 cost on reposition mantaining the X seconds it takes to build the 20%. That would improve the current situation without being a "free" buff.

- Regarding the 15% tactic, the changes are regarding making it undefendable and removing the CD (although you can only have it on 1 target at once). The changes are clearly trying to make the tactic useful. What would be the point on running that tactic on other environment other than PvE and 1vs1 where you can get disrupted/blocked and waste a tactic for 20 seconds. I think both changes are fine considering we are talking about a ST skill. Yes everyone would benefit of the 15% against 1 target! It is hardly comparable to giving a flat +10% damage increase for every skill for every target don´t you think?
This tactic´s damage input has existed in the game for so long. Are Maguses a threat in scenarios or RvR because of it?

Once again, you guys are really blinded by the numbers. The new 50% cast reduction tactic might have stirred things up a bit for ST specs and maybe some number changes were too much BUT consider this. Magus has strikethrough problems, it does not have a heal debuff (the biggest real issue with their ST spec) and has to land 4-5 dots on a target before bursting for being able to overcame any healing the target might be getting (as a result of not having access to a 50% heal debuff).
In RvR, they are capable of spreading a lot of damage but their burst capabilities are limited. Still with some small changes like Agonozing torrent being able to be casted on the move (I would have loved to see warpfire do the same) it would had been fine from the numbers point of view.

The challenge with Magus and Engineer class was how to make them relevant without making them a clone of a Sorc/BW. Devs seem to have chosen to do the latter which is what you guys should really be complaining about instead, in my opinion.

^^ You have too much power in one single class in the PTR, sick ST burst, Magic dps ( no weapon skill itemization, can build intel+ more defensive stats). Best RDPS cc toolkit, sorry but its not balanced if it goes live like that.

Engineer has also kinda high dps atm but has way worse itemization( weapon skill) and required tactics to boost armor penetration. Magus is more powerful.

The thing is people are complaining about the 15% damage bonus from Withering Soul when it literally has always done that, again same with the damage bonus from pet. The 20% damage from pet was hard to maintain as it requires a GCD, insta summon tactic and if you left the range the pet would begin immediately losing your damage stack. I'd be ok with taking a hit for unlimited 20% damage bonus and being able to share 5-10% damage to my group who stays near the pet.

ST havoc has always been strong; I don't know why havoc is the build that got buffed when nothing was ever wrong with havoc. Most magus agreed that people did not want havoc to be touched because it was already so strong, we wanted more QoL and pet synergy and I love those changes.

I agree, the QoL changes and some of the demonology stuff are great though.

The only real change to ST burst is the new tactic but most of the complaints are not directed to it. Rest of the numbers are pretty much the same to what we currently have live and I do not see Magus being overpowered. Is it a strong class in certain scenarios like PvE or 1v1? Yes it is but it always has been.

It seems like some of you are discovering the class right now.

My thoughts exactly! The changes most magus would like to receive have nothing to do with damage numbers and more related to mechanic and QoL changes.

Exaclty as above said, its the new Tactic. Withering in unchained as is Pet dmg so crying over that is just wrong. And Havoc has always bin strong.

Surging Power Tac now seems to strong, the new version but alot of the new things for classes feels strong after this weekend, well maybe not for SW
