Greetings,
I'm looking to enlist for the forces of Order with 3 of my friends and I'm a bit unsure about class choices. I want to make sure we can participate in all content, both PvP and PvE together. Thus far we have an Ironbreaker, a War Priest and a Ranger. And that's where I come in. Would that be possible if I picked a Knight or should I make a DPS? I thought the Knight could do that if I picked a two-handed weapon, but after some research I am no longer sure of that. Should I just pick a regular 'ol DPS class like the Slayer?
Thank you.

Re: Party composition and picking classes as a group
Best class to play is always the one you like most. A knight is always good for a group, and it is playable in off spec, even though hes not as strong as he was in the past. But still playable, dont overerstimate the tears of others.
But for a 3man +1 situation, when you have 1-1-1 allready, the best choice would be a second DPS.
1 Healer should be able to keep 4 people alive, and a tank can switch guard between 3 targets. So defensive wise you should be fine.
Dmg wise, its hard to kill something with only one DPS, cause you get outhealed easyly.
So, the best combo for a 4man group is 1-2-1.

I was under the impression that you spend most of the time in 6-man groups, so we'd have to find 2 randos. Are 4-man, or 3-man parties something common?

Re: Party composition and picking classes as a group
If you can get a 6man group together, sure.
But if there are only four of you, you’ll probably have to plan on the basis of a core group of four.
So you want to have a core wich works fine, even without random fillers
Since there are many small guilds, its pretty common to play groups < 6man.
For SC queues its totaly fine to have a 3man or 4man party.
For RvR, it depends what you encounter, ofc you wont kill the blob
For most PvE dungeons (if not any), 1 tank is enough
