[Suggestion] Blobfest

Problem:
People zerg and don't care about BOs most of the time.
The latest update on BOs already layed a good foundation by introducing the new BO buff system,
which encourages players to take as many BOs as possible for maximizing their rewards.
Sadly this is not enough on its own, since war crests are primarily gained from player kills,
so people will rather zerg from warcamp to warcamp.

Suggestion:
ORvR player kills no longer directly reward crests.
Slain enemies drop War Material instead. You have to roll for it just like you would have done for crests.
War Material can be turned in at any friendly BO/Keep for the following rewards:
  • War Crests (Here they are!)
  • Keep Resources (Rank up your keep!)
The amount of rewards is based on the amount of BOs you control at the time of turn in -- and AAO.
War Material decays after 30? minutes, so players are encouraged to capture and visit BOs regularly.

If you turn in war material at the same BO twice/thrice etc. you'll be rewarded less crests/keep resources each time.
Alternatively, a cooldown could be used that determines how often you can turn in your war material at the same BO.
This is to further incentivise players to visit different BOs and not just use the middle flag between war camps as turn in point.

War Material may also be turned in at the Ram or another flag outside the keep. This is to prevent attackers missing out on rewards during lengthy keep sieges where they can't move away from the keep for long periods.

Edit to reduce FOMO:
As another safeguard the decay timer on War Material would stop ticking if you're character is offline (crash), afk or in a scenario.

Very nice idea.

The warcrest must be obtained winning BOs and Keeps, not for non sense kills.

War Material decays after 10? minutes, so players are encouraged to capture and visit BOs regularly.
Having a decay timer on War Material gives people a sense of urgency to capture and visit as many BOs as possible,
so they won't miss out on their crests. This forces the warcamp zergers to move to a BO from time to time,
thereby actually doing something useful by ranking up their keep.
War Material, which is earned during active keep sieges, has no decay timer.
This is to prevent players losing their war material during lengthy keep sieges.
Does that mean that can't go away from ORvR for long without losing something? Long 10+ min sc = rip warcrests. You must afk right now - too bad, rip warcrests. Etc.

No.

Ofc not. There would be safeguards in place to prevent this.

Sounds like exploitable system. Loosing side can deny siege and zone lock by simply switching the lake.

Who else needs warcrests in this game? The game is completely dominated by highly organized veterans who have all In ROR, new and low-level players don't zerg for fun or reward just because it's actually the only way to only way to be active. We need to develop a different method of participating in the game, really!

I think you're on to something with the BO buff not being strong enough. However, I think most players and warbands would just drop their war material at central BOs like Martyr's Square or whatever the middle BO in Eataine is called. I think a simpler and less drastic solution would be to have the BO buff also add 30% chance for crest drops (including zone lock crests) in addition to giving a crest for capturing the BO.

This game needs more incremental changes and fewer overhauls.

there are many different solutions to this:
- exponentially increase rewards depending on how many BOs you control
- put a cooldown on how often you can turn in your war material at the same BO

This would further incentivise visiting different BOs.
I edited my original post with these changes.

Edit: I agree that we should start with minor changes first, for example putting bis rewards into city bags, introducing BO lock timers etc.
There are many options at hand that can be done before doing larger overhauls. This doesnt mean that some large rvr patches couldn't benefit the game however :)

As an incentivization system, I think the will have limited success because players don't perceive realm-wide objectives as within their control and you also run into something analogous to the tragedy of the commons. It's in the common interest to capture BOs, but individuals who pursue kills and ignore objectives will reap the benefits at a greater rate than those who actually claim objectives.

The second wouldn't make an impact unless the war material decays.
