[Magus] RR mastery points

So I'm fairly well geared and about to hit 70 RR on my magus; Vanq,BS staff etc. I know FS 3 and FP 3 are what I see from reading EnC guide and just from playing around with different builds. I don't use deftard just because I usually do Orvr AoE or switch to havoc ST. What i'm unsure about it is now is the times where I have spare RR points, where to put them?

I typically will pump wounds or I'll drop a point in FP to spend into parry or deft defender but I'm constantly reading and searching but most info here about magus is very old and it seems like the most highly experienced magus's are very secretive of sharing info. I've read and heard things like; to spec initiative over parry, toughness isn't worth it unless you get the perk in demonology, dropping FS to the point where you only reach 0% chance to be crit and not worry about going negative. However, a lot of those are things ive read from posts from 2019-2023 or in-game but never really explained.

I know once I hit access to the higher gear a lot of these problems become easier to fix but it would be nice to get some updated info since a lot of the magus advice was during a time where pets gave unique perks.

RoR.builders - Magus This single target spec gives you very good dmg from far, and even bigger if up close. Pink Horror debuffs Elemental debuff for 370 or so and literally every skill in the rotation is Elemental dmg : D 20s dot,15sdot,Mutating Blue Fire, Bolt Of Change,Surgingvioletfire, Few FrF and Ifoc finisher.

Just to point out, the spec which Sinisterror linked is actually of a version of a spec of a defensive magus if you check the gear in the video (one who specced armor instead of toughness). Using CQ or in general getting into melee as a glass cannon magus is a really bad idea.

Here is the actual thread where that magus linked the video of him roaming, and his spec/ gear:

viewtopic.php?t=55024&sid=d26802d1d3e86 ... 9e5193fc8a

Also, you really want the snare m1, and not the punt one- you already have punt as an ability, not to mention that both punts obviously share immunity. Also, there is no reason to use pet ap tactic in pvp- you got ap pots for a reason, use the tactic slot for something more useful.

Also, Sinisterror spec for some reason doesn't uses Daemonic Withering, which is top nm 1 tactic for any solo build lol.

Endless ap for you and everyone who is 25ft to your pet is very nice. i use 15% dmg when under 15% and daemonic withering sometimes and that is the spec in video, both to 30% dmg increase if under 15% ft + daemonic withering, but the ap one makes things so much easier for everyone around your pet, they wont run out of ap ever.

And you are correct its better to use the ranged snare m1 because you have 10s cd punt

I like the tips on tactics, I can see where the +dmg, and withering can be nasty. I'm curious as to what you guys go for as far renown to pull off something like that? I typically like running changling for wb's but I'm wondering if giving up the extra range for the extra dmg within 40 ft would work better.

Another question i'm having is deft defender worth it or should I invest into toughness, wounds?

Pink horror pet on passive. Full deft defender, i go full parry even sometimes because using faster cast times on melee range tactic. Quick escape is great, Reduced chance to be crit and Crit are all great choices.

I play mostly 2-6 man groups, where my build is definately on the glass cannon side more than any other. It hits VERY hard, and is very nice as magus burst is not as telegraphed as sorc/bw burst, so it often connects better then them. If you like high risk-high reward builds then this might be good ST build for you:

RoR.builders - Magus
Last tactic can be taken on your own preferance: warped flesh (for some defense), endless knowledge, surging power etc. Second morale also on your own preferance, focused mind is good for kiting and surging violet fire spam finisher, roiling winds good instacast aoe morale. Both have usecases, personally I prefer Focused Mind.

Renown I spec 2x Futile strike, 4x Opportunist, rest to wounds. If left with one point or so, might throw that to deft defender. Parry I don't take at all, as I don't do facetanking. I always use magus toolkit to get distance from melee dps and start kiting: stagger, punt, root, kd, snare, aegis, etc. Not the easiest to play but it's very fun.
