By far the most dogshit useless ability in the entire game, and the fact that it costs Mastery to even unlock is unbelievable.
You slide like a snail towards ur target at negative speed, they can hit YOU before you fully stop your animation because youre so slow. Not to mention people can just walk away from it and youre out of melee range, doesnt even help you stay in melee range. Im baffled as to why this ability hasnt been removed or changed yet as it is far and clearly the worst one in the game, it does the opposite of what it is supposed to do.
Spitballing potential reworks here
Copy WoW Shadowstep, appear behind them. This is the most logical as it makes sure it only truly benefits ASW and doesnt give Ranged SW even more tools.
A very short invisibility with movement speed buff - This one is the most thematically accurate to a shadow hunter in lore but is also the hardest to balance because itll actually buff Skirmish SW potentially, but could be remedied by putting it further up the mastery tree
Or simple yet, apply a short root on the target and increase the animation speed so you appear at them faster. This is the easiest change
It definitely needs some form of change and I hope its on the radar, sorry about the rant but "dashing" to your enemy only to not even reach them is mind boggling to me

It needs a fix, as you state. Faster animation is a good and simple adjustment, id also recon a 5-8 sec duration slow would be in order, it costs mastery and a major flaw with Asw is it lacks a slow skill. Msh gets it for free.

Yes the animation is terrible, should have been like a pounce etc.
But to be honest, the entire Assault SW spec is in shambles, it was successively nerfed over the years and then the WS change was the final nail in the coffin.

Agree! I’m not using it as a pounce at all but rather to boost my defence in a melee fight.

Agreed, if the animation was faster and applied a mini root ensuring you reach your target followed by a gradual slow after would make the ability a billion timers better to use

Yes, but also more drastic changes than that. In its current iteration it basically is self harm, it microstuns YOURSELF, if you try and use it you cant use abilities while youre landing. An enemy can get off 2 GCDs in the time youre recovernig from your shadowstep animation and lockout. It literally just harms u in its current state

@Saiho, We had spoken about this a bit in game already, but I find it a much better ability to boost defense in a close up fight since the animation doesn't last nearly as long compared to using it max range, as Karl also attested to here. That being said, I also believe the ability needs a bit of tweaking (the insta port to the enemies flank idea seems good enough for me).
All we can do as SW players is hope that once our turn in the DPS Phase comes, we don't get shafted.

it was faster in the past ..... but got willfully changed into this nonsense ....
You use it as a defense boost. If you want to use it as a gap closer YOU can only doing it by snaring the target beforehand (with your ranged snare in the "wrong stance") .... otherwise you will be forever out of reach ....
