Returning player, how the balance status of classes?

If you play anything on Order you will be fine as there is a clear order bias. Look into the numbers they speak for themselves.
There will be many who say otherwise but that will only prove my point. There is little semblance of balance at all when comparing side to side. The excuse you will be given and hear probably in reply to this post even is that there is no "mirror classes".
My suggestion is to play what you like off how it plays and what it looks like if you are playing for fun.

If your going to play to win play order as they win almost all the time due to imbalance. people will tell you that all of this is untrue because the truth hurts but there is little effort in truly fixing it as you can see the track record over the last 10 years it has not changed much at all. So as I said before just play to have fun or play order to win.

I am a returning player, i want to roll a new toon because i remember nothing about the game , was wondering what do you recommend me as dps for order ? i am undecided between WL and AM both i read both were nerfed, and don't want to reach high level only to find my toon is not competitive . I like WL because the theme of the class and the pet, but i have also read after a patch pet as been bugged in the pathing. AM i like because you can both heal and dps, how is in both role compared to other classes?

WL is doing well as AoE loner spec is groups, the lion pet and the associated tactic - speed training has been technically broken since the ability rework so WL players are still waiting for the devs to fix the class. Therefore 50% of the class is broken atm, play it as AoE in groups or do not bother imho.

AM is not a dps per se, but if you want to solo around as dps it will work fine for that kind of gameplay. Generally speaking Destruction classes are easier to roam with, you'll be more frustrated as order solo than destro due to all the kiting goblin squads doing insane dps, pulling maras etc.
