Your main role is ovbiously the normal tanking stuff like switching guard.
Sm has the most dmg of any tank in the game. With end game gear you will hit like a truck while also providing amazing utility like Whispering Winds (-5 sec cooldowns on abilities for yourself and your whole group). You might feel a bit useless for now but a well geared sm is a nightmare to play against.
