Should I play?

I have heard about warhammer for a while time but have never played any of the games (Tabletop or videogame). I am just looking for a new MMO to play that's different. I heard about this game and was curious if there was a private server and well, here I am . I am just wondering what this game is like and if I should try it out.

Should you play now? That's subjective as this is defined as an alpha which means it will have technical issues and requires more development. Ultimately it depends on your own patience. :)

Should you play ever? Yes! Warhammer initially appears to be a very Tolkein inspired fantasy world. It has orcs and goblins and elves and dwarves, etc. But over the last 30 years it has done a great job of evolving into something very unique. I highly recommend you check out some of the wikis or even grab a hold of the table-top books and novels if you can.

As for the game, it's a realm vs realm game. The entire concept of the game is the neverending struggle between the forces of Order and Destruction which can be broken down into three distinct conflicts: Empire vs Chaos, High Elves vs Dark Elves and Dwarfs vs Greenskins. Each race fights across multiple zones with the ultimate prize being your opponent's capital.

The game has PVE dungeons and public quests (great concept) and quests. But these are merely a means to an end. They introduce you to the zones, the story, the lore and help you get equipped for the PVP conflicts.

At the end of the day, this is free. There is no reason not to try it out. :)

Also there are no items or bonuses for real-world currency and no such bonuses will be implemented in the future. So if you are afraid of P2W (since this is a private server), you don't have to be.

The devs are rebuilding the game back from the ground up having to recode a lot of stuff so it will take time to rech end game (like 2-3 years) so if you have patience to deal with alpha related stuff/issues/bugs then sure

If you are looking for PvE: No.
If you are looking for PvP (scenarios/battlegrounds): Yes.
If you are looking for RvR: Depends. Atm RvR doesn't work completely, but i have no doubt it will be fixed someday.

I think the server is getting really close to being in a "good" state. You won't necessarily miss out on much if you decide not to play now.

But when the level cap is raised to around lvl 25 or so and the rest of the t2 zones are finished you will definitely want to play to experience T2 in it's fullest before T3 is released.

I wouldn't expect something to burn a lot of time on, but many people here are including myself, but I cant seem to stop rolling alts :(

its getting to the point where Id now say yes. Even if you arent here just for the nostalgia getting involved with 100 man keep battles is worth playing.

Warhammer online is totaly different by the tabletop ( now even more fantasy is dead and get replaced by age of sigmar) and is more like a wow clone to a videogamers eyes, tough it's not like this, game is balanced around rvr (pvp but with your own realm) and each class have their own role in the rvr, the party are build arond 2 tank 2 r/dps 2 healer. (max 6ppl in party)( it can be changed to form a 24 men warband)
There are skills gained by level and by mastery path (max level is 40)(total fo 27 mastery point for 3 path x class), and other bonus learn by renow ( max 80 or 100 it need to be decided still). Renow is only gained by pvp both in Open rvr or in scenary. Each renow level give you 1 point you can spend to boost your character. There are several renow bonus you can take.
Differently from other pvp game fight last a lot more. healer if not killed can spam heals without stop. Tank can build a lot of defense; a succesfully defense totaly remove the damage ( there are of different kind ). Dps and rdps do damage :P

Healer dps are crap exept some cases and with some equip.... there are some classes like chosen/kobs slayer/mara and dok/wp that were better than the other in the original game, due to bugs and nonesense things. But RoR dev would make a restyle in future for sure, taking in consideration feedback from player.
Atm there are bugs here and there and when there are 300 ppl in the fight the map became a bit laggy.

I suggest you to wait until you see an update with some new zone opens ( they are divided by tiers).
When a new t2 zone would show, game should be less laggy at that point ...or! start even now but take it easy and just look at image background mecchanic and decide the class you like and wanna level in future, maybe save some personal name you wanna have no matter what.
As a p2p game that is now totaly free with no shop it will for sure take attention in future. Population ain't gona be a problem.

But for sure you should try it, and try it at level 80 with end game gear, it really give a feeling total and destructive war. Dev are truly put up a good work.
