Create a Separate Currency for Potions

Posting here as suggested by GamesBond -

The gearing process in RoR is very linear by design, particulary because of wards requiring you to finish a previous gear set before moving onto the next one. Prior to the universal currency update, this wasn't really an issue in regards to potions, as you had no use for your Conqueror/Vanquisher Medallions other than purchasing potions after you unlocked their respective wards - this meant that a fully Vanq geared player could guarantee they'd be on an equal playing field with a Sovereign geared player in regards to potions (an essential part of RoR combat) without sacrificing the speed of their gearing to do so.

Since the universal currency update however, this is no longer the case. All PvP vendor potions now use the same currency, and share the same currency with future gear sets too. This creates an obvious issue in that any player who is already in BiS gear is going to have an inherent advantage over players that are still gearing beyond the one they already have from their gear advantage, as the gearing player will have to choose between purchasing potions, or moving more quickly towards their next gear set. Any fights will obviously be impacted by this, as potions are an integral part of the game at this point and it's pretty much a requirement to run double HP pots & double AP pots.

This wouldn't necessarily be such an issue if not for the price of potions, which is probably the largest issue. At 7 War Crests per Vanquisher's Potion, it will cost a player *560* War Crests for a full stack of both healing & AP potions. To contextualise this number a bit, the average cost of an Invader piece is ~652 (4567 total/7 pieces), and the average cost of a Sov piece is ~1291.625 (10333/8 pieces). This means that buying a single stack of both vanq pots is almost the equivalent average cost of a piece of Invader gear. Personally, I go through about half a stack of these potions per night of RvR - and far more if doing scenarios. At that rate, you can expect to be spending ~1960 per week on these potions - or the equivalent of the most expensive piece of Sovereign gear (1950) per week on potions alone. Which is obviously unsustainable if a player is also trying to purchase sov/invader/etc gear at the same time.

My proposal is to add a third universal currency for potions, which would be used by all PvP vendor potions much the same way that War Crests currently are. These 'Potion Coins' would drop from players the same way that War Crests do, albeit with a lower drop rate. You should also be able to convert War Crests to Potion Coins, but not vice versa. This means that players won't be discouraged from buying potions in order to save up for gear upgrades, and also ensures that War Crests never become obsolete as you'll always be able to convert them into Potion Coins.

The current pricing system for potions would also fit this new system perfectly, as the scaling cost with potion quality will still mean that for better potions you'll need to spend far more Potion Coins.

1 war crest should buy a box of 10-25 AP/heal pots, maybe 15-25 of the lower level ones

Yep - it's crazy. Our WB had 1k kills tonight in Praag RvR (https://imgur.com/Mw4ilNi) and I got a total of 58 War Crests - but I used 28 Vanq Pots, so ended up with a net negative 138 war crests lol. There were no zone caps so that will obviously factor into it, but even so our team was averaging around the same amount of crests as me which means we were getting on average 1 crest per person for every 16 kills. At this rate I'll be out of war crests in a couple of weeks :|

Yeah that's probably a far more simple solution tbh. Looking at the most recent announcement, the devs are going to look at this potion cost issue in some capacity now so hopefully that'll be it solved!

I don't want to take away from this suggestion - but for the concern surrounding the prices I want to share the following update:

We understand that the prices of the potions after the unified currency release have been a major concern for you and thus we will be adjusting their prices.

We don't have an exact timeframe - but want you to know it's something we're aware of and are looking at making changes to.

My stinky opinion is to rather remove those pots and only have crafted pots...

Before:
1 Vanq=5Conq=25Officer medalion. You can buy 8x1832 hp instant pot.
Now:
1x1832 hp pot cost 5 war crest.

Vanquisher Chest cost 430 war crest, before was 200+ vanq medalion. Not sure how all currency convert but let's assume 1vanq go into 2war crest.

so....8x5=40/2=20...only 2000% potion cost increase:D

You need make war crest fragment currency to buy lower pots cheap and drastically reduce the price of all potions.
