Not sure when patching should occur if not on patch day. Strange confusion in this thread.

Force a small pre-patch every day for the week before it launches, then activate it all today, like most games do with large patches these days?

Maybe just tell people that today you need to be 4 hours early for patching not to miss event?

We honestly wanted to get that patch ready on Wednesday and push everything without anyone noticing, just a casual patch with some bug fixes.

Our developers have been working tirelessly till the last hour before the actual event in order to make sure everything was set. We did not expect such an amount of downloads at the same hour, which caused that slow download speed.

I haven't gotten to play yet, but I still appreciate the work that went into all of this.

Doing two downloads. One done in 2 hrs. Other pc had an issue which made it so had to start over with the download. 1.5 hrs and 600something/1850.
