Justice from the Patch of Infamy

The recent May 20th Patch has reduced the damage of Engineer and Magus abilities Napalm Grenade and Mist from a base damage from 165 to 120, and reduced the Primary Stat Mod from .50 to .30. This means the two 13 point mastery abilities no longer are the defining abilities for their respective mastery lines, but move into the joke level. The reason for this change is because the Dev. in charge does not play either class and bases analysis on total damage numbers from City Instances. The flaw of such modeling is obvious. Even so, the stumbling and fumbling of class balance errors is the nature of the beast.

Previously, the March 18th Patch of Infamy gave a blanket nerf of all engineer and magus abilities by reducing their pet bonus damage by half (from 40% to 20%). The reason this was done was because concern of engineer Napalm Grenade and Magus Mist. Rather than reducing the two abilities in question damage, all abilities were impacted. This was presented as a bug fix, which was demonstrated as false.

Given Napalm Grenade and Mist have been nerfed. I propose the flawed pet bonus damage nerf be reverted to its previous level prior to the March 18th Patch of Infamy

I'm a newbie, but agreed.
Of course AoE damage does a lot of damage when there's a lot of people stacking up.
I actually think perhaps Napalm Grenade & Mist should deal MORE damage, but a shorter duration: force people to move out of it.
Say, ticking twice as fast, but doubling the cooldown or something, so it only has a 1/4th uptime possible.
Over a full fight, should lower the damage done by the ability; but makes it spikier.
Also means you can bring 2 AoE Maguses with Mist or 2 AoE engineers, and alternate Mist/Napalm, and it'd still only have a 50% uptime.

In the mean time, reverting the pet bonus seems only fair.
or, tweak the base damage of other abilities.

All the dialogue for the engi/magi Patch of Infamy from those submitting data to the Powers was the blanket nerf was only because of a perception about Napalm Grenade and Mist. That perception was based on City Instance total DPS scores. This was never challenged by the Powers responsible for the Patch of Infamy. Given Napalm Grenade and Mist are now reduced to comic levels, there is no reason the original flawed blanket nerf to all engi/magi bonus damage remain.

<insert First Time? meme> right? Haha. Kids these days don't remember the struggle of the 1.12 live patch. Now THERE was a nerf patch I tell you!

I remember that patch. My first toon was a bikini. That patch effectively destroyed bikinis. They basically vanished as a class. It's interesting the apathy of those with the power to destroy a thing.

They not only destroyed the class, they gave all the abilities they said were overpowered for the class to whs, ibs, and slayers! I stuck it out though, one of the few willing to do so :)

All the prowling abilities were nerfed into the ground damage wise, making all of them pretty much useless. The big one was enfeebling strike, which made victims have to consider whether they'd rather run and take damage or sit there and wait it out.

Not 100% on this as I cant find the patch notes online yet, but believe witch elf damage in general was reduced by some 25%. Most of this was an overreaction to another bug, where the game allowed procs on procs, so in rare instances you could do insane damage on a single hit. The biggest offender was our pve legendary weapons that could proc a 300 damage on hit, but could also proc on itself. Fixing that was totally reasonable. Nerfing out damage not so much. Was also an overreaction by casters not having figured out what detaunt was and tanks guarding or guard switching. Was relatively early in the game and people were still figuring out stuff, but caster had this funny expectation to just sit there and cast unopposed :p Those were the two big ones, but there were others as well. I've played many many games, and never seen a patch that brutal towards one specific class like that before. Like gtfo out of our game type patch haha.
