KOTBS or BG

I'm looking to start a tank character and I've narrowed it down to these 2, as I've never played either can someone give me some advice on these classes to help me choose

I would say overall KotBS is the stronger tank, if not the strongest in the entire game next to the Chosen. They have a greater ability to do more damage than other tanks and can be pretty damn good as SnB as well. They are great in group and great overall.

BO on the other hand is a standard tank, my favorite personally. They can also do some good dps and excel at debuffing the target they attack. They are better for melee trains IMO, for my personal tastes and they get really good at about level 25 when they get not in da face ability. Was really good against classes that spam one ability like WH, or healers.

That's my experience with the classes but keep in mind my experience only goes to T3 with both classes, late T3 though.

About bg, I want to start off by saying that if your looking at bg cause you think that the class is as strong as IB, I want to that that’s not exactly true. BG is not AS surviable or tanky as an ib or have AS strong buffs/debuffs. So what is BG? BG is an offensive(don’t use glaive though always SnB), (where as KOTB’s is defensive), focused tank that excells at harrasing and killing casters and healers which is what ordo if you look at class distribution is chock full of atm.

The class is pretty good and has nice survivability though feeding on weakness, banish weakness and shield of rage, awesome cc ( 5 second KD at 100 hate!), the class is also a pretty good 1v1 duler but shines as a second tank in 6man grp when paired with a chosen as your first tank.

So they are poplar opposites one offensive, the other defensive, one fair and balanced and one that’s imba2good.

Kotbs does not buff crit by 20% in general. They buff crit by 10% and debuff 10% chance to be crit on your enemies. This indeed works like 20% more crit for your own damage dealers but just 10% more crit for healers.


On topic, both tanks have their roles and are viable. You have to decide whether order or destro.

Its harder to find gear for a BG. Also is WAY harder to use it properly. KoBS are quite mistake-forgiving, and take the best of the tier1 with their shields, being probably the most hard to kill class out there.

For now, and even later if u dont spec it properly, BG can be quite sub-par. The myth that they are the best healer killers is just that. One debuff and one autoheal is just that, 2 skills. U need to spec, and they dont start to bright till way later than lvl11. Same can be said about SM.

Instead KoBS brights since the very start. Their skills arent dependant in the survavility of ur "dark protected", they buff/debuff allways the same.

Do as u please, but, honestly, if this is your 1st tank, go KoBS/Chosen. They are easier to use and more usefull in overall for a long time, at least till t3 AND career trees are implemented.

Ototo you sayin stuff again from how it was back in your day for when you left the game and then their were subsequent patches?
first off lets not give this guy class advice based on how they are in t1 k? kobs gear in t1 is kinda bull, i mean come on a freakin gale runner 2h gives +34 str?! further more yes the drop table is bugged ALO T for blackguard so getting good gear for the class is a nightmare and a half atm and the devs wont help....(please why wont you love us bg's devs )

but that wont matter in t2 and up b/c of rvr gear being easy to get, no about spec this was the most common spec for bg, dps spec with SnB:

you can swap out endless pursuit and thirst for death with other stuff if you want but you do good damage furthermore mind killer a will and int debuff that stacks x3 when paired with soul killer tactic and a 10 second +20 ap point cost to all abilities through chocking fury REALLY hurts casters

and here is proof, unlke other WAR videos where a guy runs around and steam rolls lowere geared people with full wf and glyphs and stuff this is just a guy with sov fighting people you can also see some neat tricks like using boltering anger while using hold the line to close in on that SW and at 4:01 where he fights that heal specd rp it takes whim a bit but you can see how bgs can take down healers
