Authentication Failed -- Now with pictures!

Obviously I have been having a similar problem to many other people I have seen posting on the forums. I followed all the installation steps, trying both using the launcher and the torrent to download, and I still run in to the issue of connecting to the game and then it crashes after roughly 20 seconds saying "Authentication failed -- application will now terminate".



My launcher has patched completely, I have done the Read only thing, of course it rechecks every time but that's irrelevant. I do not have a firewall blocking the program, but I have port forwarded 8048 just to be safe. I have an ASRock Motherboard, which is owned by Asus, but as far as I can tell I do not have any form of Asus program or utility that could be interfering with the game.

If there is anything else you need a picture of, please let me know. My two friends have already downloaded the game with no issues and started playing, I would just like to join them.

EDIT* Just saw a comment posted on another thread as I was making this. One user said they cannot get rid of this issue unless they switch to their phone's wifi hotspot, so perhaps their router is the issue? If so, perhaps my router is stopping this from working, for some reason, but how? Unfortunately my computer does not have the ability to connect to wifi, only ethernet, so if that is the problem, I'm not sure how to fix it.

EDIT** I downloaded NordVPN and that got it to work. However, since I don't really have any use for a VPN outside of this, I'm not too keen on spending money on a monthly subscription to it, if possible. Hopefully I can isolate and fix the problem anyway to make it unnecessary.

living in UK? We had 1 user confirm today (in Discord) from UK that it was his ISP having issues with the game. He got a VPN and then it worked

No, I live in NW USA. One of my friends is on the exact same ISP and plan as me, as well, and he can still play.

Had this once, used a VPN to log in, which worked. Afterwards the logins weren't a problem anymore even without a VPN.

Unfortunately that is not the case for me. I can only get it to work when using a VPN.

Might make sure that the game is whitelisted in your firewall and/or router. From the log it looks as though you are timing out. If you are successfully connecting using a VPN it may be that the VPN is whitelisted properly so your firewall/router allows the game to connect via the VPN tunnel.

That is exactly what I think is happening, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to fix the issue. I have one of those shitty Apple Airports as a router, and their interface does not make a whole lot of sense to me. I'm not even sure if they are capable of whitelisting.
