Mounts and other items like potions and Halfling Pie go through the ability / buff system, too.

Suggestion:
Engis should get a special turret "Gatling Pie Cannon" that fires 1 pie/s on random targets in 100 feet range as autoattack when activated. Targets hit get 40% snared for 5 seconds.
