MAY be a silly question...
This might be a bit weird to ask but i seriously don't understand. When they stopped WAR, what happened to make the game deteriorate so quickly? i am no programmer and even further from a game developer, so i am a bit curious as to what made it fall as far as it did as fast as it did.

EDIT:
Oh and it's not a silly question! We all wondered at some point. Couldn't belive that they are shutting down best pvp mmo ever made.

Re: MAY be a silly question...
Poor decisions made and the lack of interest. Mythic made a lot of bad updates and changes to the game. Then EA came a long and put their signature all over it. People lost interest and went to play other games.
Re: MAY be a silly question...
that's what i figured. its like, at the end of it all it just dissolved. i cant begin to understand the decisions of a company like EA or Mythic, but i know that when WAR died it killed a lot more than "just a game". You guys are doing a great job working on it to bring it back to life, and we all appreciate it a TON. another question: did they do something to the code on the way out of the door, so to speak? it was working fine before they shut us down. is it lack of maintenance? i really dont know how to word that question...
Re: MAY be a silly question...
I think they just did not give a ****, they closed the game like Elven said because of poor choices, the closure itself was a stupid choice imo, as well as the business plan adopted for the whole game (seriously still subscriptions when it was dying after all theses years?).
Even then, they could have just hand over a client or codes (I'm not a developper either), but I guess there were some legal issues and copyright things to be avoided... It's just stupid that the official dev(s) did not help because they could have done something, and the creation of a private server was about to happen anyway (thanks to u guys).
And I'm not so sure the game was "that" dying. We still had a good community going, they just made bad calls and poor feedback/updates...

Actually I remember coming out of beta, the game was really good but obviously unfinished. This is what hurt War from the start. EA was so concerned with pushing the game they never bothered to actually finish it. There were cities in each pairing originally and the modelling and art was done for them. They never saw the light of day in EA's rush, War was much different than what Mythic had envisioned when launched. Along with some really poor idea's in later patches and the lack of new content after LOTD, it was inevitable.

Re: MAY be a silly question...
I still maintain that rushing the release to come out just before a WoW expansion, so that everyone had enough time to see that it was a buggy rushed release and go back to WoW, was a terrible idea.
I'll admit I did that myself, but I'm EU and the GoA servers were the worst servers I had ever played on in my life, I couldn't play the game at all at most times of day due to disconnects and minute-long lagspikes. Though I came back when they merged EU onto mythic servers and everything was fine from then on, apart from the fact that EA had already given up on it by then.

Also **** EA, they did the same thing to Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines and then killed the dev studio entirely even though they worked to patch it without pay and released a pretty damn good game.

I remember those cities! i remember going to all of them at one point on my main too just to see if i could make it! they had guards and siege pads for the doors and cannon pads (OLD school). i didnt understand why they were dormant and why we never fought there and just in the IC. now i do and it makes me mad all over again. its a shame. crap games survive and WAR is canned. its BS...

The amount of unrealised potential in WAR frequently pains me.xxkreosxx wrote:...
