Re: Captain Marvel Movie Review
****** SPOILERS IN POST
We've been headed here ever since they decided to stick with Captain Marvel saving the galaxy from Thanos. So Endgame is going to have to focus on the plot line of Marvel gets a galactic mulligan on the finger snap. I don't know if the film was as agenda driven as say, the Ghost Busters remake, but I do agree they shouldn't have done Nick Fury like that (by far still the best character of the film). MCU had no choice but to try to make a stand alone 2 hr movie to explain this game changing character they just so happened to have never mentioned till now, it is sad that they turned the Captain Mar-vell character into a girl power trope. Like she could have still been Carol Danvers but in a compelling way, not just the "dem boys told me I couldn't" as the only adversity in her backstory. But, in all fairness, at least the back story was complex in narrative, i.e. the plot of how we got from 1980's earth to the Kree Empire and back was not too straightforward.
I'm not really a fan of plot development that makes characters go from mundane to all powerful heroes within 10 minutes and all their problems are solved. Like in this film where her powers were "unlocked" and the next thing she is flying across the galaxy like a spaceship, like she never tested whether she could do that, or trained, or practiced, just suddenly knew she breathe in space/not age/require food, water, shelter/invulnerable/ travel faster than light. Like at what point in this film was I really supposed to be concerned that she could be harmed, do bullets hurt her before she unlocks her powers, do they after, is she essentially Superman, who knows. All of this was crammed into the last 10 minutes of the movie so there is never really an explanation of what her powers are, her character arc is as flat as a Goblin getting smacked by an Ironbreaker's hammer (see I still worked warhammer in here somehow).
One last gripe, much like Wonder Woman, this film lacks for a decent villain. The terrorists are actually patriots trope was a bit lame, especially since we all know that the Kree are evil at this point so no one was shocked by that revelation. Jude Law just wasn't much of a bad guy, he's like the middle management of the Kree Empire so he can be introduced and killed off in one movie without effecting the wide MCU plot. Ronan could have gotten some compelling back story for why people were so afraid of him in Guardians 1, but we just got the typical bad guy is bad mono-syllabic lines that lacked any nuance. Then Marvel blew up his ships because oh yeah, she can do that now, and that was end of Ronan's screen time until the next time MCU needs him to be the motivation-less intrinsically bad guy.

"People don’t have ideas; ideas have people."
That quote explains the entirety of the movie.

Re: Captain Marvel Movie Review
Captain Marvel was a movie in which the worst part of the movie is captian marvel
I dont care about her as a character because her "heros journey" is so dam weak
showing vulnerability, making mistakes she shows non of this, due to a lack of stugle we dont see her grow as a person
shes already good and perfect, which makes it difficult to find her likeable
The cree tell her to control her emotions but at both the start and the end marvel uses her emotions so the moral was that " carol was right all along" "use your emotions"
remember the event with quill that led to thanos winning in infinity war? Or how tonys fear resulted in ultron?
Emotions shouldnt be the be all and end all and becuase we dont see her struggle her hero moment and the end where she "stands up" dosnt feel earned
also they butchered Monica Rambeau's character from the original material
this movie didnt make me care about cpt marvel which concerns me for end game considering how busted op she was

Re: Captain Marvel Movie Review
I'm just gonna give a TL;DR to anyone who doesn't want to watch a video or read a wall of text:
It's ****. Partially because it's standard-predictable-marvel-superhero-movie-#324, but mostly because of the identity/gender politic bullshit shoved into it (as they are in most movies made today given the state of hollywood). Save your money.

Re: Captain Marvel Movie Review
Oh come on movies and comics, particularly Stan Lee comics. Both have massive history of social commentary. Go read some of Stan Soapbox's he was always known for being outspoken and putting social issues in his comics.
Problem is they do it poorly because audiences are dim as **** now and deeper conversations are beyond them so they have to dumb it down.
Film was ok but not as good as Black Panther, which wound up all the right people and was a good movie doing it.
The question is why get triggered over a film to the degree you make a video about it and post about it? You ok hun?

Re: Captain Marvel Movie Review
Boy was that video review disappointing. How you have a couple hundred subscribers, I will never understand. Not only did you fail to hit any of the main issues with the movie (awkward music choices, predictable plot, bland character writing, etc...), you failed to highlight anything the movie did right (Quirky buddy cop relationship between Nick Fury and Carol Danvers, hilarious performance of Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, 90s nostalgia and references etc...). Instead all you showed was unrelated clips of toxic Femi-Nazis and rant about how you couldn't personally relate to a tough female character. This review seemed unfairly biased.
That being said, Captain Marvel wasn't my favorite Marvel movie and Carol Danvers isn't the most compelling character to me. Honestly I don't think this movie lived up to the standard of the current slate of Marvel movies, this one seemed more a kin to Marvel Studios earlier movies like the first couple Iron Man and Thor movies. I do however think that it would be ignorant to ignore the cultural significance of a movie with a another lead character young women and girls can identify with, relate with, and see as a role model. Unfortunately I feel this movie had a lot of the same flaws the movie Black Panther had. Both Carol Danvers and T'challa were a little too perfect. Marvel is obviously afraid to show flaws in their non-white or non-male title characters and it is holding back the movie from being truly great. My favorite moments in the movie are the moments that show the quirkiness of Carol's character. The movie needs more of those human moments, especially since one of the main plot points was Carol coming to the realization of her Kree heritage being a lie and embracing her humanity.
Here I am, wondering if we were even watching the same movie. Throughout the entire duration, I didn't see a hint of radical feminism which this review leaned heavily into. It actually scares me that you posted this review on the Return of Reckoning forums as if this review was something to be proud of because its not and I really think you missed the point. I understand that this video might have been something you put a lot of time and effort into, but I would strongly suggest either picking up another hobby or developing more thought out reviews instead catering to opinions of a toxic youtube community.

My Grandfather was dying with his guts 20 feet away on a foreign beach after stepping on a landmine, my father built up a business he worked 14 hours a day at and died at 50 of a stroke. This is a grown man with a youtube channel with a Dragonball Z header and he feels things were better for men before. We are the luckiest generation of men to have ever lived.
