Lion pet's taunt

I figure this is a noob question but some help would greatly be appreciated. I am only just starting this WL, I am at level 14 currently. I'm trying to go down Path of the Axeman but the Lion isn't holding the attention of ANY of the mobs, they all just go straight for me, despite me having Trained to Threaten turned on, which leaves me almost dead after almost every single mob. Is there a talent that I'm missing or am I just not high enough level yet for the pet's taunt ability?

You have to let your lion beat on the target for 3 seconds or so, and it will be better st holding aggro. However, the lion doesn’t seem to be set up as your tank, so you both will duo dps, and you most likely will have the aggro on you.
