What's the name of the game?

I played WOAoR as a kid, where the pve wasnt bugged and was full of life. I started again 3 days ago just doing pve things in Nordland and Norsca. I know this game has a focus on PvP, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to be playing. Do I keep grinding pve? How do I build a character (I cant buy skills, so is it automatic)?

TL;DR: How do you get started and play this game?

Look what zone is active for rvr, go there and fight. In the meantime, queue for scenarios. You won't find many people in pve zones grinding, as fighting other players is more fun.

You get skills automatically. Only to spend mastery and renown points you have to visit a trainer.

Usually you can start with pvp at lvl 1 or 2. :)
Dying is no option.

I queued for a scenario at Lvl 1 when I started just to get to RR2 (so I could put on the gear that I found). In short, I was completely stomped. Is there a matchmaking system for people around my level, or is it just whoever's queued?

When playing PvP, how should I go about using my skills? Is there a certain set of skills I should use? If so, under what conditions do I use them?

I find regularly that almost no quests give actual armor and weapons. If they do, they're SO much worse than that area's merchant's sets. Am I supposed to only get armor and weapons from PvP rewards?

How does crafting work? I kind of randomly picked up scavenging by talking to an NPC. Is there armor crafting in this game? If so, where is the vendor? If not, what can I do with scavenging? Do I just sell the materials that I find in the Auction House? What can I make from scavenging? Is it worth it?

Is there a roleplaying scene at all in this game? Warhammer Fantasy is my favorite universe and I would love nothing more than to experience it with others.

(1) You can use commands in /say
.rvr Shows the open RvR-Zones. Fly there if you want to experience RvR.
.pug Shows you the current scenario, where (theoretically) no premades are allowed. If you like PvP in a smaller setting.
In the upper right of your screen there is map. The orange Button in the upper left of the map is to queue for scenario.
(2) If you prefer PvE - doing it in your racial zone gives more experience.
(3) At rank 16 you join the big RvR battle as all other tiers got merged. You get bolstered to rank 48 to partially compensate.
Try to keep your gear up to date as it helps with the bolster effect.
(4) There is a career trainer in Altdorf. Press M for map. At 15000/37000 (Temple in the west). You can start spending career
points at 11 and also get your first tactic at that point. (rank 11,13,...,19,21,22...40) for career points
( and more for high renown ranks later). At the renown trainer you can spent renown points to increase stats.
Just go with deft defender for now to increase +dodge/disrupt or with reflexes for +parry.
(5) Keep your renown rank close to your rank. Try to have at least renown rank 41 when you reach rank 40.

If you have more specific questions ask here. Otherwise don't overthink it and enjoy the ride:
"In the core of every beginning lives magic"
Grimmsch Grimnirsson (2H Slayer, 40/86)
Several 80s
40+: 2H-CHOPPA, AM, RP, WP, SM, IB, KotBS, WL, WH, BW, ENG, SW
More on the way

You can buy basic items for gold from lvl4 to lvl40 from different vendors. The first vendors (items till lvl10) are in the warcamps of each Tier 1. They sell the same stuff, so no worry to visit all. You can buy better items for each level by doing pvp (rvr and scenarios) to earn medals to trade in. Till lvl10 -> warcamp vendors of Tier 1.
Other items you can buy/trade in the capital city.

PvP-Items need a renown rank to wear (e.g. basic lvl30 items need renown 22 rank).

Advice for you: level to 16 with rvr/pvp in Tier 1 so you get about renown rank 20-25. Then go to your capital to buy some stuff (eventually farm money before in pve). Then do some pve to level 20 and then start doing rvr with the big boys (lvl20 is a big breakpoint for many classes: 2th tacticslot, groupheal for healers, ...). No worry, with actual lvl gear from basic vendor you get bolstered to worthwhile levels to fight against others... the 40s even sometimes say the bolster is too good when you keep your gear up-to-date ;)

Also keep in mind that there are aome breakpoints in this game:
- till about lvl9 you are food in pvp cause you don't have any gear... i mean literally no gear.
- with lvl 14/15 and basic pvp gear from your capital you're plain dominating the last 1 or 2 levels in Tier 1
- after that you will fall in a deep hole till lvl 20... hardest 4 lvl to level in pvp i think
-till lvl32 everything is fine with bolster and actual gear although you miss some skills cause your not lvl40
-after lvl32 you just plain are a victim cause bolster doesnt work after lvl32... you will getting raped over and over again till you are lvl38+
- different classes have a different "pownage curve": e.g. melee warriorpriests and Disciple of Kaine are gods in T1-T3, while falling off fast in endgame... also shamans and archmages are godtier in lower brackets... i hate them deeply. But they get less of a thread in endgame. Swordmasters are kinda lame till T3 but then start to go off dps wise in endgame. And so on... read through some forums in here or ask ingame in /advice chat.

Best advice i have: dont forget, in warhammer you're spending time while leveling to be strong at all levels and not winning something by beeing lvl40 as fast as you can.

Just some tips.

GL HF!

You can already be very strong at lvl2 in t1 but this in only for twinks, who have the backup to buy talismans. Lowlvl chars, even with only green talismans, are pretty strong due to bolster.
As a general statement, when you don't feel overpowered in t2-3 scenario with lvl20+, you either need more practice or your items are too low for your rank and you lack talismans.
Dying is no option.

PvE has always been buggy in war. I've played a good amount of these games and this is the only one where every end game instance had a boss where the legitimate strat was bugging it out to beat it.

Nothing wrong with the majority of your post, just wanted to clear up that 1 point

I meant not as bugged as what it is now. Idk, I can't really say for sure. I was like, 10 lol. I remember the Windmill Public Quest in Nordland and how badass that was with like 15 people.
