HUD/UI scaling doesn't work?

I have tried to increase the size of the HUD/UI with the slider in the graphics settings but it doesn't appear to change anything even when I click apply.

Chat box, minimap and inventory bags etc. are all tiny because I'm on a high-res monitor.

Is there a way to force the resize?

Make sure that the files and subfolders in /user is not write protected
