Making 16-30 be able to have their own zone OR be able to enter a T4 zone with bolster isnt a terrible idea. But it would probably make the T2/T3 zones even more unpopulated.

But if you made the T2/T3 zones have increased gains to exp any maybe renown it might be something.

The rats in T2/T3 zones that give a lot of exp seemed like a good idea. Did it not work in practice?

I am as big a fan of mid tier PvP as anyone, I just dont think its realistic with the popluations.

Personally I would be happy with a large increase in gains on mid tier scenarios to motivate the 16-30 player that are on to queue more.

I love the variety. I want more maps not less.
Many people will just push through T2 to join the big battle and you will have deserted T2 zones.
I have seen it before and it will happen again.
Sure you can train sieging empty keeps than but i call that a loss in the grand scheme of things.

"We dont have the population for that."

Maybe if you had it you would keep the population. I watched as 120 long time guild mates who still play other games with me came and left after hitting t4. They dont want to PVE, they dont want to grind. They want a chance to figure out how systems work and have a fair fight with a 6v6 or 1v1. The only option im hearing ia suck it up and ride the zerg or go farm pve.

We arent born knowing everything. We learn through lessons. A lesson with too great of a curve will incite people to give up. Anyone who has worked in the education field knows this. The key is to make them reach but dont make it impossible. This is true in game design as well. Let people get confortable and they might stick around which means more food for all you rr80+.

When they did have it removing it didn't decrease the population as far as i know and they had to remove it due to not enough people as you already know. EU prime time might be able to support it but NA has no way in hell of supporting it.

My suggestion would be to merge t1/t2 and then t3/t4 and their zones respectively. People would leave t2 at level 22 like they did back in the day, it gave people some fun with their level 20 abilities for a bit before moving to the higher tiers. Also give these levels access to a faster mount so the t1's don't have trouble getting around the t2 zones. Splitting the population into 3 separate tiers isn't viable due to the Devs already trying.

This also allows new players to get right into some sieges which was my personal joy for playing this game. This also should deal with the issue you highlighted of people being thrown to far in the deep end and not knowing how sieges work, In t2 there is only 1 door to go through which will be a good start for new players. t3 and t4 keeps both have 2 doors so it should fit nicely and castle sieges in all zones will feel somewhat similar so people should be able to get the hang of it.

Zone of proximal development is important in education. The problem is simply that more people quit because the middle tiers were a wasteland. It was attempted and the results were painful.

If education is the goal then perhaps a set of quests that steer people through important parts of gameplay. Could also have some that reward key functions of their class (guarding by tanks etc).

I do not know if client control makes it possible to merge scenario tiers but that might give levellers more to do and another way to keep their gear up to date.

I really think that t1 and t2 alone also dont bring enough ppl to support an active rvr with 6 zones that also have different rules which is kinda counter intuitive. What exactly is in your opinion turning newbs away when they enter t2? Is it that they are too squishy? Is it that they dont have enough dmg or maybe something completely different like not being able to join an active sc queue?

The conceptual power of some people is so limited. NA t2-t3 would be ghost times as some have stated. You can even see people cry about he SC pops.

Additinoally its nice to play with your lvl 40 friends at such a early state.

This is the only problem for current midtier players, even at EU prime time. Usually only one active sc at a time and therefore slow pops.
Dying is no option.

46/160 players still playing, and playing together after 6 months is really high, 28%, usually this is less than 5% with any game, you and ROR combined must be doing something right.

Regards learning, i totally agree with the ram, that bit is a pain, no new player will ever learn you have to click to enter, press esc to exit, then click to enter again and only the second time will the power bar appear.

Otherwise:
1 - Basic Warband play - lvl16-39 in T4 join a pug wb (some even use comms), pretty much always one up, watch others and ask questions (basically aoe and positioning, try diff gear and setups, wb = defensive)

2 - Advanced warband play - lvl40 by the time you're level 40 join any of the warband guilds with weekly regular events and listen and learn (co-ordinated positioning and aoe also advice on gear and setup, always use voice)

3 - Basic 6 man play - lvl16-39 mostly T4 sc's join scenarios, learn basic skills, guard/heal/damage, read the tooltip and practice. Start to learn how teamplay = win, eg guard only works in range, stay with dps they get more kills, heal the guarded target who runs in, not the un-guarded who runs in = more kills for team and better use of heals, dps target soft armor not heavy = more kills. (smallscale = hybrid offensive/defensive)

4 - Advanced 6 man play - lvl40 join any of the 6 man guilds on either side (always use comms), they can be very difficult to join but are often looking for another player for a group in /5(LFG) so join, watch, listen and ask questions. To be honest the quickest way to learn this is to watch any of the twitch videos as there is a lot to learn. A lot of positioning/formations, target choice, crowd control along with a lot of role based stuff to learn, has a very high skill ceiling few will reach.

I think most people with the current game build achieve 1,2 and 3 pretty easily, i don't how to bridge the learning gap to learn 4, and its a shame as this is where the game really shines. I personally don't think bringing back T2/3 is going to help any of the above but it does raise a valid point to look at what there is to learn and the tools that currently help people learn.

Personally i think t2 maps are much better for t4 rvr style then the maps in t4 and it's a bit boring only playing structured rvr on the same maps in t4 over and over.

Also I dissagree with the notion that you need lower tiers to learn how seige combat works in this game. You learn by adapting to your enviroment. The game used to play very differant in t4 then it did in t2-3 so basicly all you learned in t2-3 was out the window anyway.
