Having to manage AP instead of being able to spam cast anything. Adds another dimension to the game. As a side benefit it really made the changes to the AM mechanic shine as the reduced AP costs are now a real reason to always use the mechanic. Particularly with the increased cost to lifetap which kill ap unless empowered. Great change.

Yea im a bit upset with that change as a zealot player and yes its a feedback from one gamer of this community.
sure, with the gear creep from people playing this for years. i haven't really played in the last 10 days or so, but i have all kinds of garbage +AP gear on me.Ap management is not less important occupation than kitting and target selection. Untill now because of bug it was benefiting insta casts now is fixed so ppl should relearn how to spam again. And there is nothing wrong for healer to use resto brust + on live all high end gear had ap procs if u now have infinity ap even without resto brust there is something wrong isnt it?
some one scenario i did play a couple of days ago, i did an armory check on all 11 players on destruction side, and it was 440 levels and 668 realm rank. order was 434 levels and 625 realm rank. discouraging for any new players and a bit absurd. i guess it does present some counterpoint as to why you should balance for the higher end gear, though. re; most new players likely aren't going to be playing for long, so should cater to base

The major issue with the AP change is that ap regeneration stat doesnt really help you. If you don't get ap regen ticks it doesn't matter what your ap regeneration you have.
The other problem is that melee vs ranged is not being taken into account. We all know that playing ranged is much much much easier than playing melee, because of massive advantage ranged classes have when it comes to engaging and disengaging. Melee classes also eat the majority of ap drain abilities simply because they're more accessible to the classes that have these skills. Melee classes have a window of being able to kill stuff unless heavily supported, because they're eating all the damage, snares and hard CC. For them to not be able to kill something because of AP now is a harsh penalty.
My suggestion would be to revert the ap changes for melee classes only, not including SH/SW.

Thats the way it always was on live. Ranged take longer and more ap to set up rotations. Melee blow it all in on burst once they get on a target. Neither should be endlessly dpsing without managing ap. In swtor you have to actively manage ap as the lower it goes the slower regen. Now thats something War players couldnt handle.

Sorcs/BW, Magus/Engi take longer to setup rotations than melee? If so, which I doubt, its 1 gcd max. If you're referring to classes that try to DPS but aren't really dps classes, like shaman/AM, then I agree.
And if you're factoring in the time it takes for melee to connect with their targets than its no contest. Ranged players forget that melee players actually have to move to get into range with targets.

Just an interesting observation and i dont want to target anyone specifically here, but it seems like the people that cry for 1.4.8 and curse the devs on every balance change, are also the ones that cry the loudest if something is being changed to completely mirror live 1.4.8 behaviour.

Depends on which side, destro healers might feel a hit, but tanks and dps will continue to enjoy infinite AP. For order it's a different story, AP was already horrible, certain classes requiring two pots almost on cooldown even with AP aura and AP master rune.

Ap starvation is true, can happen in 5secs from beggining of the combat. We'll see if kotbs + wp + rp will be enough to sustain the drainage.
