Having trouble deciding
Having trouble deciding
Been playing for a week or so, been trying different classes, but can't seem to pick one to main first. I've tried BO, Chosen, Mara & Magus. I strive to be useful so I guess I should ask what roles are needed? I'm most comfortable in DPS/Tank roles and I much prefer Melee vs. Ranged. I've always had this trouble when playing games, and I guess it's followed me here. Kind of narrowing it down to BO or Mara, but like I mentioned before, what does Destro lack? I obviously haven't played long enough to learn how endgame is and what the state of it is.

Re: Having trouble deciding
Are you more effective at support, or dps? If you're a straight ahead player Mara is a good choice. Plenty of debuffs, and pull will allow you to wreck shop. If your more reactionary, and you can master switching guard you will absolutely excel at Chosen. Both are good introductory classes.

See, I've been told/read about how important guard switching is, and honestly, I'm a bit hesitant to play Tank for that reason, I'm afraid I'll **** it up lol
Re: Having trouble deciding
There are some very helpful add-ons that will make it much simpler, but guard switching is in itself easy. The hard part is hugging that class. I myself just switch guard to whatever group mate is within range if my mdps isn't around. If you're already worried about it then you will figure it out.

Thanks, now just to decide between Mara or Chosen lol
Re: Having trouble deciding
Guard switching can be situationally helpful, in particular with small-scale and PuG's where there is little to no positional coordination and healers get mobbed quickly. In those situations, healers need a guard when they get jumped on.
However, with an organised group, there isn't much need for guard switching. Organised warbands will bring 2 tanks in each party: one guard for each DPS. Healers generally don't need guard, as they should be positioned far from the main bulk of the dange with a wall of melee mostly blocking the enemy's path to them.
Black Orc and Chosen are both excellent supportive choices. Guard is the bread and butter of any warband and proper use of it can make or break an even fight. Using it and sticking close to your guard will significantly ease the pressure on any party. Both tanks have plenty of group-helping buffs and debuffs that help with assisting DPSers (though Black Guard is considered a bit more selfish with less group utilty).
In my experience healers are a bit more lacking on destruction, but there are always times when tanks are in short supply. Warbands without a decent amount of guard will melt very quickly and require a numbers advantage. A lot of tanks seem to want to run 2-h in rvr too, meaning there is often a lack of a good defensive wall and HTL. Many don't even use guard.

Just get ENEMY addon and Guarding becomes 10 times easier.

GES.
If its your first class pick tank ~ make friends, friends who may return the favor of guardbotting for your future dps alt.

Re: Having trouble deciding
In small scale/scenarios maybe, but not in ORvR. Healers should stay quite close to the melee train, as its just as bad to have your group stretched out when your backline is jumped (of which, the likelyhood of the latter happening is far greater in ORvR).Rathael87 wrote: Thu Apr 12, 2018 1:48 pm However, with an organised group, there isn't much need for guard switching.
